Abstract

In the checking of cigarettes (10, 11) of cigarette groups (16, 17) in pockets (13, 14) of a conveyor, in particular of a cigarette revolver (12), difficulties arise in respect of the adequate spacing of checking elements (29..32) from one another when the cigarettes (10, 11) have a particularly small diameter. In order nevertheless to permit undisturbed checking by moving the checking elements (29..32) up to the front ends of the cigarettes (10, 11), the latter are checked successively in several, in particular two, steps, the checking elements (29..32) checking during each of these checking cycles cigarettes which are at a relatively large distance from one another. In particular, only every second cigarette within rows (18..21) of the cigarettes is checked. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a method for testing cigarettes of a cigarette group, in particular corresponding to the content of a cigarette pack, wherein test organs assigned to each cigarette of the cigarette group are moved towards the end faces of the cigarettes. The invention further relates to a device for checking the cigarettes.

The cigarettes are checked in connection with their packaging. The cigarettes are checked for correct, sufficient tobacco filling and for the presence or the correct design of a filter, if the filter cigarettes are concerned.

For this purpose, test organs of a test unit are brought up to the end faces of the cigarettes. The test organs can be designed differently. Axially movable, spring-loaded test plungers are often used, for example in the version according to DE-PS 22 29 382. However, optoelectronic sensors are also known and suitable. Several such test organs are combined on a holder to form a test unit. If defective cigarettes are found, the entire cigarette group is usually removed from the packaging process.

The invention has for its object to develop the above-mentioned method for testing cigarettes in such a way that a high accuracy of the testing of the cigarettes is achieved at high power, that is to say with short work or delivery cycles, in particular also in the case of small cigarettes arranged in the sealing position Diameter.

To achieve this object, the method according to the invention is characterized in that the cigarettes of a cigarette group are tested in several, in particular two, successive test cycles, with cigarettes spaced apart from one another being tested simultaneously during a test cycle.

In the method according to the invention, the entire cigarette group is therefore not checked simultaneously by a number of test organs corresponding to the number of cigarettes, but only a partial number of cigarettes in a cigarette group is checked in each case. The entire cigarette group is then checked in several, complementary test cycles.

The cigarettes to be recorded per test cycle are selected in accordance with an optimal spatial arrangement the test organs of a test unit. As a result, these can be designed and in particular arranged at such a distance from one another that mutual interference or influencing cannot take place during the test cycle.

When the cigarettes of a cigarette group are arranged in rows (longitudinal rows and possibly transverse rows), the test organs are arranged in such a way that only every second cigarette is checked with each test cycle. At the next test cycle, the previously omitted cigarettes are then checked.

The device for testing the cigarette is set up accordingly, namely with test organs whose distance from one another corresponds to the distance from two cigarettes. When testing in two test cycles, each test unit has half of the total required test organs. These are arranged in rows in such a way that every second cigarette is acted upon by a test organ.

According to a further feature of the invention, for testing the two ends of the cigarettes, several, in particular two, test units are arranged on both sides of the cigarette groups or the movement path thereof. The test units are delivered to the cigarette groups which are conveyed in cycles during a standstill phase. Sub-groups of two cigarette groups are therefore tested simultaneously during a test cycle, so that a cigarette group is completely tested after each funding cycle.

Further features of the invention relate to the design of the test units, their storage and operation.

  • Fig. 2 eine Vorderansicht des Zigaretten-Revolvers gemäß Fig. 1,
  • Fig. 4 eine teilweise eingehüllte Zigaretten-Gruppe in perspektivischer Darstellung.
An embodiment of the invention is explained below with reference to the drawings. It shows:
  • 1 shows a conveyor for cigarette groups, namely a cigarette revolver, in a schematic side view,
  • 2 shows a front view of the cigarette revolver according to FIG. 1,
  • 3 shows a detail of the cigarette revolver in a representation corresponding to FIG. 1 on an enlarged scale,
  • Fig. 4 is a partially wrapped cigarette group in perspective.

The testing of cigarettes 10, 11 takes place in connection with the packaging of the same. The device shown as an exemplary embodiment consists of a cigarette turret 12 which can usually be rotated in cycles in the vertical plane in the connection of a cigarette magazine of a packaging machine. The cigarette revolver 12 is provided with a plurality of pockets 13, 14 along its circumference. These are open on the axial faces. A radially outer pocket wall 14 is provided with a slot 15 pointing in the longitudinal direction for the passage of a conveying member.

The cigarettes 10, 11 are removed in a known manner from the cigarette magazine (not shown) by means of a slide and in the longitudinal direction, each forming a cigarette group 16, 17 from the cigarette revolver 12, namely a pocket 13 or 14 located in the upper region fed. In the present example, the two upper oblique pockets 13, 14 are expediently filled with one cigarette group 16, 17 at a time. Then the cigarette revolver 12 is advanced by a division corresponding to a pocket 13, 14.

The cigarette groups 16, 17 usually consist of a number of rows 18, 19, 20, 21. Within these rows 18, 21, the cigarettes are in a sealed position. The arrangement can be such that the cigarettes of adjacent rows are offset from one another (saddle position). In the present exemplary embodiment, however, each cigarette group 16, 17 consists of a relatively large number of forty cigarettes 10, 11. Each row 18..21 accordingly consists of ten cigarettes 10, 11. The arrangement is such that transverse rows 22 consist of four cigarettes are formed.

By rotating the cigarette turret 12, the cigarette groups 16, 17 thus formed first reach a first test station 23 and then a second test station 24. Each test station is equipped with at least one test unit 25, 26. In the present exemplary embodiment, both free ends of the cigarettes 10, 11 are tested, so that further test units 27, 28 are arranged on the opposite side of the cigarette revolver 12.

Each test unit 25 to 28 has the task of checking a certain number of cigarettes 10, 11 for correct training during a test cycle. For this purpose, the test units 25..28 are equipped with test organs 29, 30, 31, 32. In the present exemplary embodiment, these test organs 29, 32 are designed as relatively thin, axially movable plungers. These are spring loaded. To carry out a test of the cigarettes 10, 11, the test units 25, 28 are moved towards the relevant cigarette group 16, 17 in such a way that the end faces of the cigarettes 10, 11 are acted upon by the test members 29, 32. A certain amount of pressure is exerted in such a way that, in the case of properly designed cigarettes, the spring-loaded test organs (plunger) are inserted into the test unit 25..28 be moved. In the case of defective cigarettes, there is no or only a slight axial displacement of the test device in question. In this way, an error signal is triggered in a suitable manner.

The number of test organs 29..32 per test unit 25..28 is less than the total number of cigarettes 10.11 per cigarette group 16, 17. In the exemplary embodiment shown, two are arranged on one side of the cigarette groups 16, 17 The entire cigarette group 16, 17 is tested in two cycles, test units 25, 26 and 27, 28. The cigarettes 10 correspondingly marked in FIG. 3 are tested in the first test station 23. The arrangement of the test organs 29 of the test unit 25 is selected so that every second cigarette 10 is checked within the rows 18-21. The test organs 29 of an adjacent row are arranged offset. This makes it possible to distribute the number of test organs 29, 32 corresponding to half the number of cigarettes 10, 11 of a cigarette group 16, 17 in this embodiment such that they are at a maximum distance from one another. When testing the same cigarette group in the test station 24 - after a conveying cycle of the cigarette revolver 12 - the cigarettes 11 left out in the previous test station 23 are tested by a correspondingly offset arrangement of the test members 31. Again, the test organs 31 have the same maximum distance from one another. In both cases, the test organs 29, 31 are distributed in regular formation.

Infolge gleichzeitiger Zustellung aller Prüf aggregate 25..28 wirken jeweils die Prüforgane auf dieselben Zigaretten 10, 11.The test units 27 and 28 opposite the test units 25, 26 are designed in the same way and are equipped with test members 30, 32. The test organs 30 of the test unit 27 are axially aligned with the test organs 29 on the opposite side. As a result of the simultaneous delivery of all tests Aggregates 25..28 each have the test organs acting on the same cigarettes 10, 11.

The four test units 25 to 28 used in the exemplary embodiment shown are actuated together and simultaneously. For this purpose, the test units 25 and 26 on the one hand and 27 and 28 on the other hand, which are arranged on each side of the cigarette revolver 12, are connected to one another, in the present case by a crossmember 33, 34. Actuating rods 35, 36 can be moved back and forth on these appropriate. They are driven from one side of the cigarette turret 12. For this purpose, the cross member 33 located on the opposite side of the cigarette turret 12 is connected to an actuating rod 36 which is guided past the cigarette turret 12 at the side. This actuating rod 36 is passed through a guide opening 37 in the cross member 34. The guide opening 34 forms a sliding guide for the actuating rod 36. The other actuating rod 35 is extended with a guide rod 38 into the area of the opposite cross member 33 and is likewise guided here in a guide opening 39. This mutual support and mounting of the actuating rods 35, 36 in or on the crossbeams 33 and 34 also ensures that the test units 25 to 28 do not tilt.

The ends of the cigarettes 10, 11 protrude slightly from the pockets 13, 14. At a short distance from the ends of the cigarettes 10, 11, a stationary limiting disk 40, 41 is arranged on each side of the cigarette revolver 12. In the area of the test stations 23, 24, the limiting disks 40, 41 are provided with bores 42, the size and spatial arrangement of which are matched to the test organs 29, 32 so that they can be used to test the cigarettes can pass through the bores 42. During a rotation cycle of the cigarette revolver 12, the test units 25, 28 with the test organs 29, 32 are withdrawn to the outside of the limiting disks 40, 41.

The tested cigarette groups 16, 17 are fed through the cigarette turret 12 to a horizontal discharge conveyor 43 which extends below. This is provided in a known manner with a rotating conveyor (not shown), the drivers of which are conveyed in the longitudinal direction through the pockets 13, 14, taking the cigarette groups 16, 17 with them.

The test device described is particularly suitable for testing cigarettes with an extremely small diameter, e.g. 5.7 mm. 4 shows a cigarette group 16, 17 consisting of such cigarettes 10, 11, with an inner wrapping 44 made of tin foil or the like. A cigarette packet consisting of these thin cigarettes 10, 11 here contains forty cigarettes which are arranged in rows 18, 21 in the manner described. Despite the small diameter of the cigarettes, the test organs 29.32 can be designed in an appropriate manner and can work without mutual interference. Due to the described arrangement of the test organs 29.32, a sufficient distance between them is possible.
