Treten nun in den Metallschichten Risse auf, so wirken die durch diese Risse unterbrochenen Metallschichten mit dem Dielektrikum dazwischen, wie hintereinander geschaltete Kondensatoren. Dadurch wird eine Wechselstromleitfähigkeit aufrecht erhalten, wenn man davon ausgehen kann, daß nicht an gleicher Stelle des Fadens beide Metallschichten völlig unterbrochen sind. Mißt man nun diese Wechselstromleitfähigkeit über an sich bekannte kapazitive Meßverfahren (siehe z.B. EP-A-0 105 969), so kann selbst bei einem oder mehreren Brüchen in ein oder beiden Metallbeschichtungen auf das Vorhandensein zweier elektrisch leitfähiger Schichten geschlossen werden und dieses zur Echtheitserkennung dienende Merkmal eindeutig festgestellt werden.In the known security threads, which contain only an electrically conductive layer, cracks in the metal coating lead to the conductivity being interrupted. Die Fig. 1 zeigt eine einfache Ausführungsform eines erfindungsgemäßen Sicherheitsfadens 1. Die Trägerfolien sind die beiden außenliegenden, transparenten Kunststofffolien 2, 3 aus vorzugsweise Polyester. Jede dieser Kunststoffolien ist auf ihrer inneren Seite mit einer Metallbeschichtung 4, 5 versehen. Auch hier werden beide Trägerfolien mit ihrer beschichteten Seite nach innen gerichtet überlagert und mit Hilfe einer Klebeschicht 14 miteinander verbunden. Es können aber auch partiell ein Muster oder auch alphanumerische Schriftzeichen aufgedruckt werden, die direkt oder unter Zuhilfenahme entsprechender Vergrößerungsgeräte lesbar sind. Da die Fäden in der Regel eine Breite von 0,5 mm bis max. 1,5 mm aufweisen, sind für die Bedruckung des Fadens mit Zeichen dieser Größenordnung aufwendige Drucktechniken und entsprechende Vorrichtungen notwendig, wodurch der Faden zusätzlich an Fälschungssicherheit gewinnt.In some cases, especially if several layers are to be contained in the security thread, the films can also be coated on both sides. Zur festen Verbindung der beiden Folien können diese durch eine an sich bekannte Rollenkaschieranlage gefüllt werden (Fig. 3). In dieser Anlage werden die Folien 2, 3 mit der z. B. metallischen Beschichtung 4, 5 einander zugewandt überlagert und über Heizrollen 22, Infrarot oder Hochfrequenz, auf eine Temperatur gebracht, bei der der Kleber 6 aktiviert wird. Nach dem Durchgang durch zwei Preßwalzen 23 und anschließender Abkühlung sind die beiden Folien fest miteinander verbunden und können in einer entsprechenden Schneideanlage in einzelne Streifen mit der gewünschten Breite geschnitten werden.The two carrier films from which the security thread according to the invention is composed are preferably obtained from a single film which is provided with the desired layers on one or both sides in advance. Claims (16)

  1. A security document in which a security element in the form of a thread or strip is embedded, comprising a carrier sheet and at least one marking substance applied thereto, e.g. in the form of a coating, to allow for visual and/or machine detection of authenticity, characterized in that
       the security element (1) is composed of two carrier sheets (2, 3, 8, 9),
       each marking substance (4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15) allowing for detection of authenticity is found on each of these carrier sheets and is thus present twice,
       these carrier sheets are interconnected in such a way that the total structure is symmetric when regarded in cross section, and
       the carrier sheets enclose at least one pair (4 and 5, 10 and 11, 12 and 13) of the marking substances each present twice.
  2. The security document of claim 1, characterized in that the enclosed pair of one marking substance (4, 5, 10, 11) is a metal coating.

       the security element (1) is composed of two carrier sheets (2, 3, 8, 9),
       each marking substance (4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15) allowing for detection of authenticity is found on each of these carrier sheets and is thus present twice,
       these carrier sheets are interconnected in such a way that the total structure is symmetric when regarded in cross section, and
       the carrier sheets enclose at least one pair (4 and 5, 10 and 11, 12 and 13) of the marking substances each present twice.
  10. A method for producing a security document in which a security element in the form of a thread or strip is embedded, comprising a carrier sheet and at least one marking substance applied thereto to allow for visual and/or machine detection of authenticity, a plastic sheet being prepared and this plastic sheet provided with the substance allowing for detection of authenticity, characterized by the steps of
       producing a second, similarly pretreated sheet,
       providing at least one of the sheets with a laminating adhesive on the side provided with marking substance,
       superimposing the two sheets with their sides provided with marking substance or with the adhesive layer facing each other, and gluing them together,
       cutting the security elements out of this two ply stretch of sheet in the necessary strip or thread width, and
       embedding this security element in the security document.
  11. The method of claim 10, characterized in that the two plastic sheets are obtained from one stretch of sheet.
  12. The method of claim 11, characterized in that this stretch of sheet is cut into two longitudinal strips after application of the marking substances to form the two plastic sheets.
  13. The method of any of claims 10 to 12, characterized in that the plastic sheets are coated several times with different materials.
  14. The method of claim 13, characterized in that the various coatings are applied to the same side of the sheet.
  15. A method for producing a security element in the form of a thread or strip to be embedded in a security document, comprising a carrier sheet and at least one marking substance applied thereto to allow for visual and/or machine detection of authenticity, a plastic sheet being prepared and this plastic sheet provided with the substance allowing for detection of authenticity, characterized by the steps of
       producing a second, similarly pretreated sheet,
       providing at least one of the sheets with an adhesive on a side provided with marking substance,
       superimposing the two sheets with their sides provided with marking substance or with the adhesive layer facing each other, and gluing them together, and
       cutting the security elements out of this two ply stretch of sheet in the necessary strip or thread width.
  16. A method for testing the security documents of one or more of claims 1 to 8, characterized in that the A.C. conductivity of the security element is tested by capacitive measurement to detect the presence of the electrically conductive coatings.
