Abstract

Die Erfindung betrifft einen zylindrischen, vorzugsweise im Querschnitt ovalen sowie beschichteten Monolithen aus Keramik als Baukastensystem für einen Katalysator für das Abgas von Verbrennungsmotoren, der einen sich vom Quer­ schnitt des Monolithen bis auf den Querschnitt des das Abgas fürhenden Rohrs verjüngenden Eingangskegel mit einem Rohr­ anschluß und einem Ausgangskegel, auch mit einem Rohran­ schluß, versehen ist, wobei zwischen dem Mantel des Mono­ lithen und dem ihn umgebenden Blech eine Quellmatte ange­ ordnet ist, wobei um den Mantel des Monolithen (20) die eine kürzere Mantellinie aufweisende Quellmatte (21) unter Be­ lassen eines Abstandes zu den beiden umlaufenden Endkanten (22) des Monolithen (20) herumgelegt ist, wobei die Quell­ matte von einem beidseitig über diese unter Bildung eines Ringraums (23) vorstehenden Blechs (24) so umschlossen ist, daß dessen zumindest beide Enden längs einer Mantellinie (25) stumpf aufeinander stoßen und miteinander verschweißt sind, und wobei in jedem Ringraum (23) ein die beiden End­ kanten (22) umgreifender und axial beidseitig über das Blech (24) und die Stirnseite (27) des Monolithen vorstehender Schutzring (26) eingesetzt und an dem Blech (24) festgelegt ist.
