Definitions

  • the invention relates to an endless storage and conveyor chain in an ammunition magazine according to the preamble of claim 1.
  • a known ammunition feeder device of this type for ammunition for belt-less ammunition for self-retracting firearms, in particular for cannons on aircraft
  • the insertion of the ammunition from the magazine into the weapon is supported by a booster motor.
  • This conveyor chain is guided over at least one drive wheel and several deflection wheels, deflection shells and buffer wheels.
  • the ammunition is fed and discharged through a transfer unit. So that acceleration forces that are not too great occur at the beginning of a burst of fire; additional means are provided in the form of a device with which two movably mounted loop-forming deflection devices can be accelerated.
  • a cup chain is used to feed Cartridges from an ammunition container through a cartridge feed channel to an automatic firearm.
  • the individual links of this cup lette are connected to each other by bolts.
  • the bolt is fastened in an eyelet of a link in the cup chain via a ball joint and projects into elongated holes in two eyelets of an adjacent link.
  • this cup chain is not suitable as a storage and conveyor chain in an ammunition magazine.
  • This known chain is also not suitable as a storage and conveyor chain in an ammunition magazine.
  • the object which is solved by the characterizing features in claim 1, is to create an endless storage and conveyor chain, which is able to absorb the acceleration forces occurring at the beginning of a burst of fire with simple aids.
  • the chain links of the conveyor chain are preferably connected to one another with play, such that at least one cartridge can be fired until the entire conveyor chain is accelerated to the required feed speed.
  • This endless conveyor chain preferably has chain links both in the area of the cartridge tips and in the area of the cartridge bottoms, which are connected to one another by cups which serve to hold the cartridges.
  • the ammunition magazine 10 is shaped such that it can be accommodated as an on-board magazine in the wing of an aircraft.
  • this ammunition magazine 10 there is an endless storage and conveyor chain 11, which is folded into a double loop.
  • This endless conveyor chain 11 is guided on one side around a single deflection roller 12 and on the other side around two deflection rollers 13 and 14.
  • the upper deflection roller 14 is driven by a motor 15.
  • the direction of movement of this endless storage and conveyor chain 11 is indicated by four arrows A-D.
  • cartridges 16 are either fed to the magazine 10 or removed from the magazine 10.
  • This second endless conveyor chain 17 must be driven synchronously with the cadence of the firearm.
  • the supply of the cartridges 16 to the firearm is assumed to be known here and is therefore not further explained.
  • the endless conveyor chain 11 has chain links 20 both in the area of the cartridge tips 18 and in the area of the cartridge bottoms 19, on which cups 21 are attached, which serve to hold the cartridges 16.
  • the chain links 20 in the area of the cartridge tips 18 are connected to the chain links 20 in the area of the cartridge bottoms 19 by these cups 21 to form the complete storage and conveyor chain 11.
  • This conveyor chain 11 is guided in side walls 22 of the ammunition magazine 10.
  • the side walls 22 are connected to one another by a floor 23 and a ceiling 24.
  • the top section of the conveyor chain 11 is pulled in the direction of arrow A by the auxiliary motor 15 via the deflection roller 14.
  • This uppermost section of the conveyor chain 11 also pulls the lowest section of the conveyor chain 11 in the direction of arrow D.
  • the auxiliary motor 15 pushes the second uppermost section of the conveyor chain 11 in the direction of arrow B via the deflection roller 14.
  • This second uppermost section of the conveyor chain 11 also pushes the second lowest section of the conveyor chain 11 in the direction of arrow C.
  • the deflection roller 13 driven by the firearm pulls on the middle two sections in the direction of arrows B and C and pushes on the outer two sections in the direction of arrows A and D. is considered essential for understanding the present invention.
  • each chain link 20 is displaceable relative to the adjacent chain link 20 by the clearance 32 between the larger bore 30 and the pin 25.
  • the game 32 is selected so that the entire endless conveyor chain 11 can be extended or shortened by four divisions (FIG. 3).
  • a cup 21 for the cartridges 16 is attached to two adjacent bolts 25.
  • This cup 25 has two adjacent bores 33 and 34, one of which is also smaller than the other, so that the one pin 25 also projects with play 35 into the one bore 33 of the cup 21.
  • the buckets do not impede the lengthening and shortening of the conveyor chain 11.
  • the drive of the firearm 36 immediately accelerates the second conveyor chain 17 to the required speed. This is possible because the weight of this second conveyor chain 17 is relatively small compared to the storage and conveyor chain 11.
  • the second lowest section of the conveyor chain 11 is set in motion in the direction of arrow C, by gradually moving one cartridge 16 after the other, each time increasing the distance between two adjacent cartridges 16 somewhat.
  • the second uppermost section of the conveyor chain 11 is set in motion in the direction of arrow B, in turn by successively setting one cartridge 16 after the other in motion.
  • the motor 15 has time to accelerate to its full speed and also to set the other sections of the conveyor chain 11 in the direction of the arrows A and D.
  • the described extension of the chain 11 is possible.
  • the two middle sections of the conveyor chain are then pushed together again in the direction of arrows B and C into the starting position and the two outer sections are pulled apart in the direction of arrows A and D.
