Description

The invention relates to a setting for a gemstone, with a holding body or jewelry part, in which the gemstone is inserted.

Gemstone settings are used in a wide variety of designs, mostly they consist of more or less complicated shaped holding parts that require considerable skill from the setter, and are therefore time-consuming and expensive.

If the gem is to be used in certain non-metallic materials, such as acrylic glass or plastics, these known techniques can only be used to a limited extent anyway. Also for design reasons, the often visible frame parts, which partially hide and impair the gem, are not always desirable.

The object of the invention is therefore a simple gem setting, which can be used in various holding bodies or jewelry, for example watch glasses or also conventional jewelry such as for example hoops or brooches.

According to the invention this object is achieved in that a bore for receiving the gem is provided in the holding body / jewelry part, the cross section of which at least partially corresponds approximately to the cross section of the gem to be grasped, that recesses are made in the peripheral region of the gem, the position of which in the inserted state of the gem corresponds to the position of corresponding recesses in the wall of the bore, and that at least one elastic connecting element engages in the corresponding recesses, the depth of one of the recesses being selected so that the elastic connecting element can deflect to such an extent that the gemstone is inserted into the bore or can be pulled out.

The solution according to the invention only requires a mounting component; special tools can be dispensed with to use the gem. In practice, a snap-type snap holder is achieved.

The socket is particularly simple and aesthetically pleasing if, according to one embodiment of the invention, the depressions are ring grooves and the elastic connecting member is a snap ring. This snap ring can be made, for example, of a platinum-iridium alloy, so that on the one hand a constant spring force is maintained, and on the other hand the gem can be snapped in and out of the hole with reasonable effort.

In the drawing, an embodiment of the version according to the invention is shown in cross section:
  • The holder body 11 can be any piece of jewelry, for example a bangle or the cover of a watch. A bore 11 b is made in this holding body, the cross section of which is only minimally larger than the cross section of the gem 10 to be used in the holding area. In the holding area H, the side surface of the gem 10 runs vertically, so that the gem sits with little play in the bore 11 B. In its circumferential area, an annular groove 10A, which has a semicircular cross section, is introduced into this vertically running side area of the gemstone 10. In the intended holding position of the gemstone 10 in the holding body 11, a corresponding annular groove 11a is introduced in the holding body 11 with respect to this annular groove 10A, the depth of which, however, is greater than the depth of the annular groove 10a. In the annular groove 11a, a snap ring 12 is inserted, the outer diameter of which in the non-energized state is larger than the diameter of the bore 11B, so that the snap ring is held in the annular groove 11a before the gem is inserted. The cross section of the snap ring 12 is matched to the depth of the annular groove 11 A that it can fully deflect into it and thus the bore 11B for the passage of the gemstone 10 is exposed until the annular groove 10A comes to lie opposite the annular groove 11 A and Circlip 12 springs under its own elasticity into the ring groove 10A in the holding area H of the gemstone. It goes without saying that the depth of the annular groove 10A is less than the thickness of the snap ring 12 in order to ensure sufficient locking.

Just as the gemstone 10 can be inserted into this holder, it can also be removed by exerting pressure or tension, the circlip 12 then escaping into the annular groove 11A and releasing the gemstone 10.
