- the cap member may act to physically support the cage so that the bag does not carry any of the weight of the cage or alternatively the load may be shared between ' the bag which will normally have a degree of elasticity, and the cap member, or in a further alternative the weight of the cage may be substantially carried by the bag with the lower edge of the outer wall element just touching the upper surface of the tube plate.
- the cap member is preferably, as ?has been indicated above, annular and continuous, however many of the advantages of the invention may be achieved if the cap member consists of an array of arcuate legs extending from the cage outwardly over the upper end of the bag and engaging the upper face of the tube sheet with the free ends of the legs.

- the apertures are preferably oval or another elongate shape having arcuate ends of small radius, however other shapes may be used.
- the preferred elongate shape facilitates assembly of the bags into the tube sheet as compared with the conventional circular apertures. This preferred shape also provides an efficient engagement of the bag with the tube plate while the cage is being fitted within the bag. Once the cage is inserted into the bag the cap members preferably engages with the upper end of the bag and urges it more firmly into contact with the tube sheet. ' Even light outward pressure across the flat sections of the bag is sufficient to maintain it firmly in position.

Abstract

Chaque gaine de sac est reliée à son extrémité supérieure à une garniture annulaire (18) ayant une section en forme de U inversé qui s'étend vers l'extérieur au-dessus du bord supérieur du sac contenant un milieu filtrant associé (13) et s'engage dans la face supérieure de la paroi tubulaire (11). A bag sheath (16) is disposed inside each bag containing a filter medium (13) in order to prevent deformation of the bag when gas pressure is applied, an improvement being made in the suspension of the sheath bag (16) from the tubular wall (11). Each bag sheath is connected at its upper end to an annular lining (18) having an inverted U-shaped section which extends outwards above the upper edge of the bag containing an associated filter medium (13) and engages in the upper face of the tubular wall (11). The annular lining (18) holds the upper end of the bag containing a filter medium (13) engaged in the tubular wall (11) and protects it from abrasion.
