Description

This invention relates to the building industry, and more particularly to that of funerary monuments. We know that, in the building, we use decorative elements in cut stone which are in the form of grooves and domes (1/4 of a circle). These elements are currently widely used in the decoration of funerary monuments. In FIGS. 1 and 2 of the appended drawings, there is shown respectively a tombstone provided with bulges 10 and grooves 12.

The technique currently used to make grooves and domes (Figures 3 and 4) consists of starting from a rectangular rectangular rod 16 of stone. To make the bulges 10, the strip is cut to round off the edge, eliminating the part 11 (FIG. 3), and for making grooves, these are hollowed out in the strip 16 either by manual cutting or by by means of diamond cutters or close discs, followed by breaks in the portion between the discs. This eliminates the parts 13 (Figure 4). In both cases, grinding is then necessary to obtain the desired surface finish.

It is clear that such a process is long and costly both in terms of labor and material, the parts 11 and 13 eliminated during cutting being lost.

The invention proposes to provide an economical method for producing such bulges and grooves.

To this end, the method according to this invention is characterized in that it consists in drilling a hole of desired diameter in a rod of stone, for example of granite, of great length, using a hole saw with axis horizontal, so as to obtain, on the one hand a core of desired diameter, and on the other hand a parallelepipedal block provided with an axial bore; cutting said carrot into four pieces, along two perpendicular longitudinal planes, so as to obtain four curved rods and cutting said rectangular block, provided with its bore, along two orthogonal longitudinal planes, so as to obtain four grooved rods.

  • - Les figures 1 et 2 représentent des monuments funéraires dans lesquels l'invention peut être mise en oeuvre ;
Other characteristics and advantages of this invention will emerge from the description given below with reference to the appended drawings which illustrate an example of implementation thereof which is devoid of any limiting character. In the drawings:
  • - Figures 1 and 2 show funerary monuments in which the invention can be implemented;
  • - Figures 3 and 4 are perspective views illustrating the prior art discussed above; and,
  • - Figures 5 to 8 illustrate, in perspective views, the successive stages of the process object of this invention.

The starting material used by the method according to this invention consists of a stone rod 16, for example of granite, of great length, having the shape of a parallelepiped. Using, for example, a diamond hole saw with a horizontal axis, we start by drilling a bore of desired diameter in this block 16, so as to obtain on the one hand a core 18, of determined diameter and, on the other hand, a block 16 provided with a corresponding axial bore (Figure 5).

The core 18 thus extracted can be used as it is or ground to arrive at the desired final surface state. According to the invention, it is cut into four pieces along two perpendicular longitudinal planes, which gives rise to four curved rods 10, 10ʹ, 10ʺ, 10 ‴, the height of each rod being equal to the radius of the saw.

The block 16 provided with the axial bore is cut along two orthogonal longitudinal planes, so as to obtain four grooved rods 12, 12ʹ, 12ʺ, 1>, the most common form being the 1/4 round (Figures 7 and 8). The rod can be brought to the desired surface state either before cutting the block, or after.

- aucune perte de matière première, contrairement au procédé actuellement utilisé (figures 1 et 2) ;
The above description clearly shows the advantages brought by the invention:
- no loss of raw material, unlike the process currently used (Figures 1 and 2);
- enormous saving of time on the work, all the machined surfaces being used.

It remains to be understood that this invention is not limited to the exemplary implementation described and shown here, but that it encompasses all variants thereof.
