Definitions

  • the invention relates to a device for recording image information on both sides of recording sheets, which, past a partial circumference of a printing roller, are guided past an image recording unit, with a fixed sheet entry surface, which forms a sheet feed gap lying in front of the image recording unit with respect to the direction of rotation of the printing roller is brought up to the underside of the printing roller, and with a sheet guiding surface with an initial area close to the sheet recording device, onto which the recording sheet coming from the printing roller comes first, the sheet guiding surface extending over the printing roller and with its end area remote from the sheet recording device at an acute angle Sheet inlet surface is arranged.
  • Such a device is in the Patent Abstracts of Japan, volume. 8, No. 238 / JP-A59-115875 (Fujitsu KK).
  • This known device has a printing roller, on the partial circumference of which recording sheets for recording image information, each with both sides, are guided past an image recording unit in succession.
  • a fixed sheet entry surface is brought up to the underside of the printing roller to form a sheet feeding gap which is in front of the image recording unit with respect to the direction of rotation of the printing roller.
  • a sheet guide surface behind the image recording unit which is arranged at an acute angle to the sheet inlet surface and extends across the printing roller.
  • An initially unprinted recording sheet reaches the area between the image recording unit and the printing roller by means of a feed roller and becomes a result of the rotation of the Print roller in the course of the further recording process brought up to the sheet guide surface.
  • Drive rollers move the recording sheet along the sheet guide surface in a channel over the printing roller until the recording sheet reaches a storage surface in a rotatably mounted receiving device which is in an upper position for this purpose.
  • the receiving device can be lowered by a predetermined angle in such a way that its storage surface is aligned with the fixed sheet inlet surface. In the lowered position, the recording sheet slides again into the area between the image recording unit and the printing roller, so that its still unprinted side can now be printed before it is removed from the device.
  • Another known device forms a copier for printing on both sides of recording sheets, which are guided past an image recording unit adjacent to a printing roller.
  • This consists of a colored rubber blanket cylinder with which the recording sheets are printed.
  • the latter has on its roller surface a first and a second gripper, which are arranged offset in the circumferential direction of the roller surface at a distance of the length of a recording sheet.
  • a recording sheet fed to the printing roller for printing is gripped by the first gripper on its sheet circumference and pulled onto the printing roller until the end of the sheet of the recording sheet also abuts the printing roller and is gripped by the second gripper.
  • the rotating platen feeds the recording sheet past the imaging unit where it is printed.
  • the first gripper lets go of the beginning of the sheet of the recording sheet and the second gripper holding the sheet end of the recording sheet is pivoted through 180 °, so that the recording sheet with its previously printed side now lies against the roller surface. With a further rotation of the printing roller, the recording sheet is again guided past the image recording unit, this time printing the back of the recording sheet.
  • a drive device is required, which is arranged inside the pressure roller.
  • the invention has for its object to provide a device for recording image information on both sides of recording sheets, which is structurally particularly simple and allows two-sided printing of recording sheets of different lengths.
  • the sheet inlet surface is part of an immovable sheet support surface in the device of the type mentioned and that the sheet guide surface forms a sheet receiving nip with the printing roller behind the image recording unit with respect to the direction of rotation of the printing roller and that the transport of the recording sheets in the sheet receiving nip and along the sheet guide surface is effected by rotation of the printing roller.
  • a major advantage of the device according to the invention is that it does not require any moving parts to turn the recording sheets and is accordingly of particularly simple construction.
  • the reversal of a recording sheet coming from the printing roller, printed on the front side, is achieved in that the recording sheet is guided along the sheet guide surface onto the sheet support surface, so that the recording sheet, with its unprinted reverse side lying on the sheet support surface, with its sheet end last coming from the printing roller gets into the area of the sheet feed nip to be printed on its back this time.
  • Another advantage of the device according to the invention is that it is not necessary to adapt the device to different formats of the recording sheets because the sheet support surface can accommodate recording sheets of different lengths.
  • the sheet support surface of the device according to the invention is preferably inclined in the direction of the pressure roller, so that recording sheets which are guided through the sheet guide surface onto the support surface automatically slide with their end of the sheet into the sheet feed gap on the underside of the pressure roller and are taken away again by the latter.
  • the sheet support surface and the sheet guide surface form a sheet receiving channel with a closed channel end, on which the sheet support surface and the sheet guide surface abut one another; the shortest distance between the closed channel end and the peripheral surface of the platen is slightly smaller than the length of a recording sheet.
  • a resilient stop is arranged at the channel end.
  • This can be designed, for example, as a foam body or as a brush with hair pointing in the direction of the pressure roller.
  • the brush ensures gentle holding of recording sheets of different lengths, which depending on their length engage with the beginning of the sheet more or less deeply in the brush.
  • the sheet guide surface is assigned a controllable switch for selectively transferring a recording sheet coming from the printing roller to the sheet support surface or into a sheet discharge channel.
  • Such a switch can be dispensed with according to an advantageous development of the device according to the invention, in which a drivable sheet feed roller with a pressure roller is arranged between the end of the sheet support surface facing away from the pressure roller and an adjoining sheet outlet channel.
  • a recording sheet coming from the printing roller comes with its sheet beginning in the area between the sheet conveying roller and the pressing roller and, depending on the direction of drive of the sheet conveying roller, can again be fed to the printing roller for printing on the rear side or can be passed on into the sheet outlet channel for removal.
  • a supply of recording sheets that are still unprinted on both sides to the printing roller is made possible according to an advantageous embodiment of the device according to the invention in that below the sheet support surface with respect to the direction of rotation of the printing roller behind the sheet feed slot, a sheet feed device is introduced to the printing roller to form a further sheet feed slot.
  • the image recording unit has recording elements arranged point by point in one line and is connected to an output of an electronic page memory device which has a control input for rotating the memory content by 180 °.
  • the page storage device is arranged via its control input in such a way that its entire storage content is rotated by 180 °, which corresponds to a reflection of the point information to be printed on the two perpendicular bisectors of the recording sheet; the result is that the reverse side of the recording sheet is printed correctly in comparison with its front side.
  • Figures 1 to 7 each relate to a thermal transfer printer as a preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention for recording image information on both sides of recording sheets.
  • the image is recorded in such a way that the individual recording sheets consisting of simple paper are brought into contact with a heat-sensitive ink transfer medium and that dyes contained in them are also transferred point by point to the paper recording sheet by heating the ink transfer medium.
  • thermal transfer printing here is only an example of many other printing processes that can be used in the device according to the invention.
  • FIGS. 1 to 4 show, the individual recording sheets to be printed are arranged in a stack 1.
  • a sheet feed device 3 is arranged, which has as essential parts a sheet feed roller 4 and a sheet guide plate 5 extending from the stack 1 to the image recording unit 2.
  • the sheet feed roller 4 conveys the uppermost recording sheet 6 of the stack 1 along the sheet guide plate 5 to the area of the image recording unit 2.
  • the image recording unit 2 consists of a line-shaped thermal print head which extends perpendicular to the image plane with a length corresponding to the width of the recording sheet 6; the thermal print head has, in a known manner, a multiplicity of heating elements arranged in rows, so that an entire row of pixels can be printed at the same time.
  • the image recording unit 2 is opposite a printing roller 7 with the interposition of an ink ribbon 8.
  • the ink ribbon 8 is accommodated in an ink ribbon cassette, of which only a winding spool 9 for winding the ink ribbon 8 and an unwinding spool 10, which is parallel to it, for unwinding the ink ribbon 8 is shown in FIGS. 1 to 4. Between the winding and unwinding spools 9 and 10, the ink ribbon 8 is guided together with the recording sheet 6 to be printed between the image recording unit 2 and the printing roller 7.
  • a sheet support surface 11 is brought up to the underside of the printing roller 7 to form a sheet feed nip 13 lying in front of the image recording unit 2 in relation to the direction of rotation 12 of the printing roller 7.
  • This sheet feed nip 13 is arranged in the direction of rotation 12 of the pressure roller 7 before another sheet feed nip 14 which is formed by the sheet guide plate 5 and the pressure roller 7.
  • the sheet support surface 11 has an inclination in the direction of the pressure roller 7.
  • a sheet guide surface 15 is arranged in such a way that, viewed in the direction of rotation 12 of the printing roller 7, it runs behind the image recording unit 2 with the printing roller 7, forming a sheet receiving gap 16 over the printing roller 7 at an acute angle onto the sheet support surface 11.
  • a switch 17 which, from a first switch position shown in FIGS. 1 to 3, for transferring a recording sheet 6 coming from the printing roller 7 onto the sheet support surface 11 into a second switch position shown in FIG from the printing roller 7 coming recording sheet 6 in a sheet outlet channel 18 is controllable.
  • the mode of operation of the device according to the invention is described below with reference to FIGS. 1 to 4:
  • the uppermost recording sheet 6 is conveyed from the stack 1 in the direction of the printing roller 7 by means of the sheet feed roller 4.
  • the recording sheet 6 is drawn with its beginning of the sheet into the further sheet feed gap 14 between the sheet guide plate 5 and the printing roller 7 and guided past the image recording unit 2 adjacent to the latter.
  • This heats up the adjacent ink ribbon 8 in accordance with the printing information (image information) supplied to it, so that the recording sheet 6 is printed on its front side.
  • the recording sheet 6 is continuously advanced by the rotation 12 of the printing roller 7, the front side of the recording sheet 6 being printed line by line.
  • FIG. 2 shows, the beginning of the sheet of the recording sheet 6 is guided through the sheet receiving gap 16 along the sheet guide surface 15 past the switch 17 onto the sheet support surface 11.
  • the sheet end of the recording sheet 6 is also guided past the image recording unit 2 through the sheet receiving nip 16 until the sheet end of the recording sheet 6 detaches from the printing roller 7 and falls on the sheet support surface 11. Due to the inclination of the sheet support surface 11, the recording sheet 6 slides with its sheet end into the sheet feed nip 13 and is caught there by the printing roller 7, which now guides the recording sheet 6 with its rear side past the image recording unit 2 (FIG. 3).
  • the switch 17 is now controlled into a switch position in which the recording sheet 6 coming from the pressure roller 7 is deflected into the sheet outlet channel 18 for removal.
  • Figure 5 shows a further embodiment of the device according to the invention, which differs from the embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 4 in that the sheet guide surface 15 is continued beyond the switch 17, so that the sheet guide surface 15 and the sheet support surface 11 form a sheet receiving channel 19 .
  • the sheet support surface 11 and the sheet guide surface 16 abut, they form a closed channel end 20 of the sheet receiving channel 19.
  • the shortest distance between the channel end 20 and the circumference of the pressure roller 7 is selected so that it is slightly smaller than the length of one Recording sheet 6 is.
  • the recording sheet 6, coming from the printing roller 7, is inserted with its sheet beginning into the sheet receiving channel 19 and thereby abuts the wall of the channel end 20 with its sheet beginning.
  • the recording sheet 6 When the printing roller 7 rotates further in the direction 12, the recording sheet 6 is supported its leaf end on the pressure roller 7 and is slightly compressed. This compression of the recording sheet 6 causes the recording sheet 6 to snap into the position shown in dashed lines in FIG. 5 when the printing roller 7 is rotated further, the recording sheet 6 with its sheet end entering the sheet feed nip 13 and being caught by the rotating printing roller 7.
  • FIG. 6 shows the detail denoted by X in FIG. 5 in the region of the channel end 20 in an enlarged representation.
  • a resilient stop 21 is arranged in the channel end 20 in the form of a brush with hair pointing in the direction of the pressure roller 7, which also record sheets 6 of different lengths.
  • FIG. 7 shows a further preferred exemplary embodiment of the device according to the invention.
  • this device has a sheet feed device 22 consisting of a Sheet feed roller 23 and a sheet feed channel 24 for feeding a recording sheet 25 from a stack to a platen roller 27.
  • the recording sheet 25 is guided past an image recording unit 29, preferably a line-shaped thermal print head, with the interposition of an ink ribbon 28.
  • the ink ribbon 28 is rolled up from a supply reel 30 onto a take-up reel 31.
  • a sheet guide surface 32 is arranged such that it forms a sheet receiving gap behind the image recording unit 29, viewed in the direction of rotation 33 of the printing roller 27, and runs from there over the printing roller 27 at an acute angle to a sheet support surface 34.
  • the sheet support surface 34 is brought up to the underside of the print roller 27 to form a sheet feed nip 35 in front of the image recording unit 29 in the direction of rotation 33 of the print roller 27, the sheet support surface 34 being inclined in the direction of the print roller 27.
  • the sheet guide surface 32 and the sheet support surface 34 form a sheet guide channel 36 which is open on both sides and in the end region of which a sheet feed roller formed by the sheet feed roller 23 with a pressure roller 37 is arranged.
  • the channel 36 continues behind the sheet feed roller 23 and the pressure roller 37 in the form of a sheet outlet channel 38.
  • the sheet feed roller or sheet conveying roller 23 can be moved in the direction away from the pressure roller 37 or towards it, thereby forming a switch which enables an optional transfer of a recording sheet 25 coming from the channel 36 into the sheet outlet channel 38 or an arcuate channel section 39, which one Return of the recording sheet 25 to the printing roller 27 for multiple printing on the same side of the recording sheet 25 enables.
  • the position of the paper feed roller 23 required for the latter function of the device according to the invention is drawn with solid lines, while that for transferring a recording sheet 25 in the sheet outlet channel 38 serving switch position is shown in dashed lines.
  • the sheet deflection for double-sided printing of the recording sheet 25 takes place in the embodiment shown in FIG. 7 in the same way as in the embodiments described above with reference to FIGS. 1 to 6. Due to the sheet conveyor roller 23, however, the exemplary embodiment shown in FIG. 7 does not require a special switch for discharging a completely printed recording sheet into the sheet outlet channel 38. Namely, if the roller 23 is in the position shown by the broken line, a recording sheet 25 coming from the sheet guide channel 36 will arrive the sheet feed roller 23 and the pressure roller 37 inserted into the sheet outlet channel 38.
  • the sheet conveyor roller 23 is pressed against the pressure roller 37 and driven in the direction of rotation designated 40, so that the recording sheet 25 is completely conveyed into the sheet outlet channel 38. If, on the other hand, the recording sheet is to be fed again to the printing roller 27 for the purpose of printing on its rear side, then the sheet conveying roller is in the position drawn with a solid line in which a recording sheet 25 coming from the channel 36 is deflected such that the beginning of the sheet of the recording sheet 25 in reaches the arcuate channel section 39.
  • the recording sheet 25 is now inserted into the arcuate channel section 39 by rotating the sheet conveying roller 23 in the direction of the arrow 40 until the sheet end of the recording sheet 25 falls from the printing roller 27 onto the sheet support surface 34. Now, by reversing the direction of rotation of the sheet conveying roller 23 in the direction denoted by 41, the recording sheet 25 is fed with its sheet end to the printing roller 27.
  • FIG. 8 shows a schematic representation of a control structure for the exemplary embodiments shown in FIGS. 1 to 7 the device according to the invention.
  • the main component of this control structure is a page storage device 42, to which the information to be printed on a whole page is supplied via an input 43 and which outputs the printing information to a recording head 45 via an output 44.
