Abstract

A method and apparatus are disclosed for influencing the fibers in the uppermost layer of a fibrous web lying on a screen, for example, in applying a watermark or evening the surface of the web, wherein a surface compression is exerted on the web by a screen roller and a second screen guided around the screen roller. The surface compression is maintained over a variable time period and causes a water film to appear on the upper surface of the web, in which the fiber density is much less than in the web prior to the surface compression. This water layer is forcibly aspirated from the web and the fibers therein thus experience a reorientation and become set in desired positions.

Description

The invention relates to a method for reorienting the fibers in the top layer of a pre-dewatered nonwoven fabric lying on a first screen, in which the nonwoven fabric comes into contact with the second screen of the nonwoven fabric facing away from the first screen within a selectable distance a screen roller wraps around a part of its circumference, is subjected to surface pressure, and a device for performing this method.

In a known method of this kind (FR-A-2 141 385), in order to improve the surface of the web, i.e. to compress and equalize, by means of a screen roller exerted a surface pressure on the pre-dewatered nonwoven fabric lying on a first screen in a section which is located between two register rollers which are spaced apart in the running direction of the first screen and which support the first screen. The first screen therefore has a slope between the two register rollers to the deepest point below the screen roller and rises again from here diagonally upwards to the upper vertex of the second register roller. The lower run of an endless second sieve runs parallel to this rising section of the first sieve and is guided around the sieve roller and a rubber roller arranged at a distance therefrom. As a result of the surface pressure exerted on the nonwoven by means of the screen roller from above, the fibers of the uppermost layer of the nonwoven are given the possibility of reorientation in this known method, as is necessary to remove flakes and to achieve the most complete possible tangle. In that section of the second screen which lies between the lifting point from the screening roller and the lifting point from the nonwoven fabric, however, the surface pressure introduced by the screening roller cannot be maintained. Although a part of the screen roller is thrown out of the water, which has accumulated as a result of the surface pressure above the nonwoven fabric, and is collected and removed with the help of a drip pan, it is located above the second screen up to the point where it is from the nonwoven fabric lifts off, another accumulation of the water that emerged from the nonwoven fabric as a result of the surface pressure. In connection with the lack of surface pressure, this means that the reorientation achieved during surface pressure is sometimes lost again. Thus, although the second screen is in contact with the nonwoven fabric substantially longer than this could be the screen roll, and although the distance over which the second screen contacts the nonwoven fabric is varied to some extent by changing the depth of deflection of the first screen can, the reorientation achievable with this known method is therefore insufficient.

It is also known (FR-A-2 350 422) for dewatering the nonwoven fabric formed on a lower wire, in particular a multi-layer paper web, to press a self-contained, revolving upper wire against the upper side of the nonwoven fabric and to previously guide it over a roller, whose jacket has an open surface so that it can absorb water and store it temporarily. By means of a water suction device following the sieve roller in the running direction of the lower wire, which has suction boxes, that water can be sucked through the top wire which, due to the surface pressure which the top wire exerts on the nonwoven fabric in the section abutting a screen contact surface of the suction device exit. Such a dewatering device is not suitable and is also not intended for reorienting the fibers of a pre-dewatered nonwoven fabric. The same applies to another known dewatering device (GB-A-2 003 952), in which a self-contained top wire guided over rollers in the area between two rollers in succession in the direction of wire travel by means of a curved screen plate of a suction box against the top of one lying on a fourdrinier wire Paper web can be pressed, with a selectable thickness. However, the fibers cannot be reoriented because the water emerging from the nonwoven fabric as a result of the surface pressure is immediately sucked off by means of the suction box.

The invention has for its object to provide a method for reorienting the fibers in the top layer of a pre-dewatered nonwoven fabric, that is, to improve the randomness of these fibers and to even out the fiber distribution, which is also effective at different and in particular at high machine speeds. This object is achieved by a method having the features of claim 1.

Since, in the method according to the invention, the length of the distance over which the second screen exerts a surface pressure on the nonwoven fabric can be changed and, furthermore, at least a part of the water which has emerged from the nonwoven fabric is forced to pass through the second within the period during which the surface pressure is effective The sieve is discharged through it, on the one hand, the fibers can be given the time required for reorientation at any machine speed and, on the other hand, after the reorientation, but before the second sieve is lifted off the nonwoven fabric, the fibers can be fixed by forcibly removing the water , so that the reorientation achieved cannot be lost in whole or in part. The forced removal of the water emerging from the nonwoven fabric under the influence of the surface pressure through the second sieve also prevents that the fiber layer achieved is changed again by water drops, which may hit the fiber fleece.

The water discharged upwards through the second sieve is expediently separated from entrained air, so that water and air can then be discharged separately from one another.

The invention is also based on the object of providing a device for carrying out the method according to the invention. This object is achieved by a device having the features of claim 3. The surface pressure introduced by the screen roller is continued in this device thanks to the screen contact surface of the water suction device. As a result of the adjustable distance between the screen roller and the water suction device, the distance over which the surface pressure is effective can be adapted to the requirements. The fixation of the reoriented fibers is also ensured, since the water suction device forcibly discharges the water through the second sieve even within the area in which the surface pressure is effective.

In a preferred embodiment, the device has the features of claim 4. Not only the time span or distance over which the surface pressure can be maintained can be changed here. The surface pressure of the fleece generated by means of the water suction device can also be set independently of the surface pressure generated by means of the screen roller. The device can therefore be adapted particularly well to different requirements, for which a separate adjustment of the screen roller and the water suction device as well as a common adjustment may be necessary. These adjustment options are also advantageous with regard to the reproducibility of the results. In addition, the adjustment work can be carried out without difficulty.

If water is also to be discharged through the first sieve, then at least one known drainage element can be arranged in the region of the water suction device on the side of the first sieve facing away from it.

The invention is explained in detail below using an exemplary embodiment shown in the drawing. The single figure shows a side view of the embodiment.

A device for influencing the uppermost layer of a pre-dewatered nonwoven fabric, which lies on a long wire, not shown, which is guided horizontally in a known manner, has a frame, designated as a whole by 1, in order to be able to be arranged over the long wire and the nonwoven fabric lying thereon that overlaps the fourdrinier sieve from above and, as in the exemplary embodiment, is fastened to the table carrying the fourdrinier sieve or to a foundation. At the front and rear end of the frame 1, two supports 2 and 3 are provided on each side, which support an upper frame 4, the two side rails of which run at least approximately parallel to the lateral edges of the wire.

On the two supports 2 standing downstream in the running direction of the fourdrinier wire, a support frame 5 engaging between these supports is pivotally mounted with a horizontal axis extending transversely to the longitudinal direction of the fourdrinier wire, the two side rails of which are extended beyond the end remote from the pivot axis. These two mutually parallel extensions are formed by two arms 6 which are firmly connected to the support frame 5 and which, as the figure shows, extend obliquely downwards from the support frame 5 between the two supports 3 and have a bearing 7 on each slide 22 wear for a screen roller whose axis is parallel to the pivot axis of the rocker formed from the support frame 5 and the arms 6. The slides 22 which can be displaced in the longitudinal direction of the arms 6 are displaced in the exemplary embodiment via a spindle which can be driven by a motor 23 and are held in the selected position.

At the end of the two side rails of the support frame 5, which end is extended by the arms 6, one end of a tab 9 is articulated with an axis parallel to the pivot axis of the support frame 5, the other end of which is articulated to a pivot frame 10 pivotably mounted in the upper frame 4. The pivot axis of the pivot frame 10, which lies parallel to the pivot axis of the support frame 5, is provided in the area of the one cross member, while in the area of the other cross member near the two side members, a pneumatic working cylinder 11 acts from below, by means of which the pivoting position of the pivot frame 10 within the pivot range can be set to any value. The swing arm consisting of the support frame 5 and the arms 6 can therefore be pivoted with the aid of the pneumatic working cylinder 11, which makes it possible to press the screening roller 8 more or less strongly against the fleece lying on the fourdrinier wire.

Entsprechend steigt der andere Abschnitt der Anlagefläche der Bodenplatte 13 zu dem der Siebwalze 8 abgekehrten Ende hin etwas an.In the area between the two arms 6 on the one hand and the rear supports 2 on the other hand, a suction box 12 is arranged which is delimited on its underside facing the Fourdrinier sieve by a base plate 13 which has numerous water passage openings and the underside of which forms the contact surface for a second sieve 14 . As the figure shows, the lowest point of the slightly cylindrical curved contact surface is approximately in the middle of the base plate. From here, the contact surface rises against the screen roller 8, that is, counter to the direction of travel of the wire, in such a way that the plane defined by this section of the contact surface touches the screen roller 8. Accordingly, the other section of the contact surface of the base plate 13 rises slightly towards the end facing away from the screen roller 8.

The suction box 12 has separate drain lines 15 and 16 for water and air. Furthermore, the suction box 12 is attached to the supporting frame 5 in a height-adjustable manner by means of threaded bolts 17. One of the threaded bolts 17 is, as the figure shows, arranged on each side of the suction box 12 near the front or rear edge of its cover, so that not only height adjustment but also inclination adjustment of the suction box is possible with the help of the threaded bolts 17 is, which engage in an adjusting bush in the support frame 5.

The second screen 14 is an endless Fourdrinier wire, which is brought up from above in an approximately vertical direction to the screen roller 8 and is then deflected in an approximately horizontal direction. Then the second sieve 14 runs over the underside of the base plate 13, which has the consequence that it has a slightly falling and then a slightly rising course to the lowest point of the underside of the base plate 13. A driven roller 18 carried by the rear supports 2 deflects the second screen 14 upward to a first deflection roller 19 which is arranged above and supported by the frame 4 and which is used to tension the second screen 14 about a distance from its axis of rotation Pivot axis 20 can be pivoted upward by motor. The second screen 14 then runs over a second deflection roller 21, which deflects it back to the screen roller 8.

If, for example, the top fiber layer of a nonwoven fabric lying on the Fourdrinier of the paper machine is to be made uniform with the aid of this device, the swing arm and the sieve roller 8 carried by it are adjusted with the aid of the pneumatic working cylinder 11 so that the nonwoven fabric is removed from the sieve roller 8 and the second sieve 14 guided over them experiences a certain compression. The consequence of this is that a water film is formed on both sides of the fleece, which has a substantially lower consistency than the fiber fleece before it is exposed to the surface pressure between the second-Si -eb 14 and the wire. By reducing the fabric density, the fibers on the nonwoven surface are given so much freedom of movement that they can reorient.

The suction box 12 is set so that the surface pressure exerted on the nonwoven fabric is also maintained between the screen roller and the base plate 13 of the suction box 12 and in the area of this base plate. Therefore, the water that emerges from the nonwoven fabric under the influence of the surface pressure cannot re-enter the nonwoven after leaving the screen roller 8. The water is partially sucked up through the bottom plate 13 by means of the suction box 12, with the result that the fibers of the top layer, which have been reoriented, are fixed to such an extent that they no longer change their position, specifically even if the surface pressure stops after the fleece has left the area below the base plate 13.

By pivoting the rocker consisting of the support frame 5 and the frame 6, the sieve roller 8 and the suction box 12 can be raised or lowered at the same time, whereby the sieve roller and the suction box can be brought back into the same position with respect to the wire without difficulty after lifting that they had previously taken, which makes setting the device much easier. The suction effect of the suction box 12 can be varied in order to suck the water up from the fleece with the required intensity.

If it is necessary or expedient to also suck off the water downwards, the fourdrinier sieve is guided in the area below the base plate 13 over at least one known drainage element which discharges the water downwards with adjustable strength.
