Crimping tongs, in particular for crimping a sleeve on a cable, comprising two handles, one stationary, the other mobile, a stationary jaw (11) and a mobile jaw (12) pivoting about an axis (12a), a cam (15) driven by a ratchet wheel (16) which actuates a knuckle joint device (20, 21, 22), an advance catch (17) installed on the mobile handle (13) so as to drive the ratchet wheel which is held in one direction by a retaining catch (24), characterized in that it comprises a mobile die (14) sliding in rectilinear stationary grooves towards the stationary jaw when the jaws close so as to ensure the crimping, the knuckle joint device making the mobile jaw (12) rotate which pushes back the mobile die (14), a link (26) between the mobile die (14) and the mobile jaw (12) ensuring the moving away of that mobile die (14) during the opening of the tongs, and in that in the rest position, the mobile jaw (12) is normally closed under the action of a spring (25) acting on the knuckle joint device, a trigger (19) permitting to press on the knuckle joint device against the force of the spring (25) to ensure a moving away of the mobile jaw which permits the insertion of the sleeve to be crimped between the jaws, whereas the release of the trigger ensures the holding of the sleeve in the crimping position in the tongs.
2. Tongs according to claim 1, characterized in that they comprise two one-piece shells (27, 28) of light alloy or plastic material which sandwich the mechanism of the tongs between themselves.
3. Tongs according to claim 1, characterized in that they comprise an auxiliary release trigger (36) which co-operates with the advance (17) and retaining catch (24) for permitting the moving away of the mobile jaw (12) during the crimping phase by completely releasing the ratched wheel (16).
4. Tongs according to claim 3, characterized in that the auxiliary release trigger (36) is mounted on the axis (17a) of the advance catch (17) and comprises a stud (36a) on which a return latch (17c) of said advance catch engages, and in that the length of this advance catch (17) is chosen such that it pushes the retaining catch (24) away from the ratched wheel (16) when it is itself pushed away from this ratched wheel (16), by the action of the release trigger (36) and by bringing the handles (13 and 33) closer together.
