i DK 94 00087 U3in DK 94 00087 U3
The present invention relates to a touch-sensitive control panel of the kind comprising a faceplate preferably of a dielectric material such as glass, and electrodes with associated electronics equipment located at its rear, the faceplate having markings for indicating touch areas where a finger touch provides such an operative coupling to the respective underlying electrodes that selective control signals can be output from the panel unit by means of the connected electronics equipment. Such panel units or elements are increasingly used as control panels on various electrical and electronic devices, as they can advantageously replace panels with mounted, mechanically actuated switches or rotary or slider actuated elements, with a slight touch of a selected field can produce the desired function, namely a start or stop function or a control function in the up or down direction, without the use of mechanically acting means. These are usually devices that act on capacitive coupling. Precisely because this type of control panels is already known, the associated general benefits of their use need not be discussed further here. It may be more relevant to note that the new technology dashboards are predominantly manufactured in specialized companies, as it is not simply a simple assembly of pre-made switches and controllers, but a manufacture of a new product type, which includes both the panel plate and at least the most necessary electronic equipment.
However, it has so far been possible to cultivate a kind of intermediate item, where the manufacture of the panel plate itself has been a special task, while the electronics equipment has been able to be arranged on a conventional circuit board which has been able to be prepared with suitable contact means for contact formation against specific electrode surface areas on the back of faceplate. These bounded areas are typically designed as a coating of graphite powder which is durably secured to the back of the faceplate by a suitable technique, so that the electrode surfaces thus formed have the desired propagation at a well-defined location and are readily available for contacting with protruding contact elements on the underlying printed circuit board, in that these elements are to be applied in a relatively uncritical manner merely against said coatings in one or other of these.
However, it has been found in practice that significant contact problems can nevertheless arise because of relying on a mechanical joining of the relevant contact parts. Already due to possible contamination factors, it can be questionable whether in this case an effective contact formation is achieved.
The invention has for its object to provide a technique by which the problem of contacting can be effectively solved by a simplified and more integrated design of the whole unit, namely by arranging the electrode surfaces as a plate part on the circuit board, after which it is mounted in abutment against the back of the panel plate and immediately attached to the panel plate. . The attachment can be made to the circumference of the panel plate, but it is preferable to perform a bonding of the circuit board to the panel plate, as the circuit board may otherwise curl slightly, e.g. under changing climatic conditions, whereby some of the electrode fields could protrude outward from the panel plate and thereby allow for malfunction if the electronics are adjusted to require just a touch of the panel plate, which will be the preferred one.
The invention provides a completely secure contacting and the very great advantage that in the aforementioned specialty companies, one can handle and adjust the products as fully integrated units, both mechanically and electrically. Said electrode fields are easier to form on the printed circuit board than on the panel plate, and it becomes further practicable to produce units with curved panel plates on which it is extremely difficult to print said graphite fields.
Opfindelsen skal forklares nærmere i det følgende under henvisnint til tegningen, på hvilkenThe invention will be explained in more detail below with reference to the drawing, in which
Fig. 1 viser et traditionelt betjeningspanel med påtrykt elektrode og med en printplade bagved,FIG. 1 shows a traditional control panel with printed electrode and a printed circuit board behind,
Fig. 2 viser et betjeningspanel med printplade ifølge opfindelsen, ogFIG. 2 shows a control panel with circuit board according to the invention, and
Fig. 3 viser et krumt betjeningspanel med printplade ifølge opfindelsen.FIG. 3 shows a curved control panel with circuit board according to the invention.
In FIG. 1, a glass front panel or panel 1 is provided with a graphite coating 2 in the electrode form on the back side by a complicated screen printing and / or sintering method. This is done with a subcontractor. A resilient contact 3 is soldered to a print 4 and is pressed against the graphite electrode 2 by attaching the printed circuit board. As shown, the circuit board is single-sided and certain components 5, 6 are shown.
In FIG. 2, a structure according to the invention is shown. The glass plate 1 appears unprinted, but it can be painted or similar on the front, to define specific areas or give directions or give addresses. For protection against the outside, such markings may also be placed on the reverse side, possibly in mirror writing. A circuit board 4 carries on the side facing the glass plate an electrode which is connected to an SMD (Surface Mount Device) component 8 on the back of the circuit board 4. This component is the only one shown, but one skilled in the art capable of constructing a complete electronics equipment attached to each electrode of corresponding components, for mounting on the back of 4 DK 94 00087 U3. The circuit board 4 is adhered to the glass plate at locations 9a, 9b, but using a curing adhesive or cement, the entire surface can be connected to the glass plate backing.
In order to achieve a better fit to the curved panel, the circuit board 4a is in this case somewhat thinner, but the stiffness and durability of the calibration remain the same, especially if a sizing of the entire surface is used.
The unit can advantageously be manufactured as an integrated, prefabricated and pre-calibrated product unit, in that the same company prepares both the panel plate and the circuit board and performs the direct attachment of these parts to each other.
It should be mentioned that the invention will be equally advantageous, whether the effect of the units is based on capacitive changes or on other sensing principles, e.g. of inductive or optical nature. By placing the circuit board directly on the panel board, the required sensors, which do not necessarily have to be ordinary 'electrodes' or 'surfaces', can be placed with a very high degree of accuracy and with well controlled connections to the surroundings.
Furthermore, the circuit board may be provided with shielding panels everywhere where this does not compromise the functionality of the sensor equipment, whereby such shielding panels will desirably come as close as possible to the panel plate.
