Description

TEXTILE SURFACE STRUCTURE
The invention concerns a textile fabric with a flexible substrate, on which a multiplicity of lamella-shaped elements made of an abrasion-resistant and stiffer material than the substrate are applied in accordance with the preamble of Claim 1.
Such a textile fabric is for example already known from WO 2012/024532 Al. However, with this material the desired surface characteristics such as strength and water tightness are produced by a corresponding choice of an overall coating material. A protective fabric for articles of clothing is described in US 4,810,559 A, which has a base fabric made of synthetic material and rigid lamellae welded onto it. The lamellae are manufactured from a thermoplastic material or a material cured by heat. This known protective fabric can indeed be used for articles of clothing, but not for uses dependent upon resistance to the effects of heat and a high non-flammability. DE 103 00 684 Al discloses a textile product in which a three-dimensional pattern is applied to a textile medium, in which the three-dimensional pattern covers at least 15 % of the surface area of the textile medium so that the product’s abrasion resistance is greater than the abrasion resistance of the textile medium. DE 10 2009 010 995 Al discloses a thermally fusible fabric with a bearer layer made of a non-woven fabric on which a two-layer adhesive structure comprising a bonding agent and a thermoplastic polymer is applied. A foam cushion for use in a vehicle seat with at least one expanded foam upholstery element is known from DE 10 2006 017 103 Al, in which an air-permeable thermal layer is provided on the side of the upholstery unit facing the seat area or resting surface.
This invention is based on the task of creating a textile fabric which has a high mechanical stability with concurrent flexibility and which can be manufactured easily.
The task is solved by a textile fabric with the characteristics of Claim 1.
The fabric in accordance with the invention obtains its mechanical stability solely by means of the applied lamella-shaped elements and in addition requires no further coating material. Mechanical stability is achieved by the filler materials which can be applied to adhere non-abrasively to the substrate with the aid of the water-based dispersion adhesive.
Water-based dispersion adhesives are relatively simple to process and give no cause for concern as regards health.
The material for the lamella-shaped elements has at least a latex material, a polyurethane-based dispersion adhesive and reinforcing filler materials. The latex material, which is a butadiene-styrene copolymer, ensures that the lamellae do not become too brittle. Particularly favourable characteristics for the fabric are produced since the proportion of the latex material amounts to at least 20%, the proportion of the polyurethane dispersion adhesive, at least 10% and the proportion of filler materials at least 5% of the material for the lamella-shaped elements. According to the desired mechanical characteristics of the fabric, the proportion of filler materials can be increased to 50%. Furthermore, the material for the lamella-shaped elements can have a binder and an aqueous styrene-acrylate dispersion.
In particular, the filler materials are ceramic particles and/or glass particles and/or metallic particles, to achieve the fabric’s desired abrasion resistance and puncture resistance. In this instance the preferred particle size of the filler materials amounts to between 3 pm and 80 pm.
Various flexible materials are considered as a substrate. Plastic films can also be used. However, the substrate can preferably be made of a polyamide or polyester textile which is easy to manufacture and is very hard-wearing. In addition, the textile provides a good prepared surface for the lamella-shaped elements. This is particularly applicable if the lamella-shaped elements are applied to the substrate by a screen printing process.
To achieve a flexibility of the textile fabric that is as even as possible, the lamellashaped elements can preferably be applied to the substrate in a regular pattern. The degree of flexibility can be determined by the number of mutual spacing of the lamella-shaped elements. For most uses a covering of 25% - 80% of the surface of the substrate with lamella-shaped elements is optimal.
The substrate can be pre-coated with an adhesion promoter to produce a permanent bond between the lamella-shaped elements and the substrate.
In addition, the invention concerns a seating furniture cover which is produced from a textile fabric in accordance with one of Claims 1-8. In this instance in particular work chairs for which a hard-wearing coating material is especially important come into consideration as seating furniture. At the same time the coating material has the required flexibility to be able to be pulled on over the furniture based body without creasing and deforming.
Additional advantages are apparent if the seating furniture’s textile fabric has its surface facing away from the lamella-shaped elements covered by a film, preferably a bonded polyurethane film. The seating furniture cover can then also be backed with foam. A possible embodiment of a textile fabric 10 in accordance with the invention is described more detail below with the help of the drawing, whose sole figure shows a plan view of a section of the fabric 10.
The fabric 10 consists of a flexible substrate 11, which can for example be a polyamide textile. Round lamella-shaped elements 12 made of a more rigid and mechanically more resilient material than the substrate 11 are imprinted on this in a regular pattern, in which its mechanical resilience in particular can be produced by ceramic filler materials in the material of the elements 12. In this instance the elements 12 are arranged in rows RI, R2 next to each other, in which the elements 12 are in each case placed offset to each other in neighbouring rows RI, R2. On account of this the overall spacing of the elements 12 is the same. On account of this, the fabric 12 has the same flexibility in all directions, was is also promoted by the round shape of the elements 12. However, the elements 12 could also have different forms, for example the shape of polygons. By a corresponding arrangement of the elements 12 on the substrate 11, preferred directions for the flexibility of the fabric 10 can also be achieved if this is desired.
