An automated volume measuring device for a container (1) is characterized in that it comprises a device (20) for measuring the distance between a float (4) of a transceiver unit mounted by a suspension means (23) on the support peg (15) provided in the container (1) for the gauge, said float (1) being held in alignment with the sensor by a guide component (21).
