Description
Process for the production of iron oxide pigments E s has been found that the method for the production of iron oxide pigments by treating metallic iron with oxidizing agents in the presence of an aqueous, weakly acidic iron salt solution in which iron oxide or iron oxide hydrates are suspended and which according to patent 902 163 to a is prepared in a special way, can be improved by the fact that the iron (II) hydroxide precipitates, which arise alternately in weakly acidic, alkaline and again weakly acidic solution with the addition of a lye or an iron (II) salt, using more powerful Oxidizing agent is oxidized in the shortest possible time, preferably in a maximum of 15 to 20 minutes.
B. Luft, in Frage. As to be used with advantage in the context of the present procedure. powerful Active oxidizing agents are initially introduced into the mixture in excess and finely divided oxygen or oxygen-containing gases, e.g. B. Air, in question. However, other, strongly oxidizing chemical substances, such as chlorates, Perchlorates and other oxidizing chlorine compounds, permanganates, chromates or bichromates and chlorine gas can be used.
When using oxygen or oxygen-containing gases, e.g. B. Air, one proceeds as in the description and the exemplary embodiment of the patent 902 163, but conducts a copious excess of such a gas in the finest possible distribution through the reaction mixture, so that the first existing ferrous hydroxide precipitate turns into ferric oxide in about 15 to 2 minutes or iron oxide hydrate is oxidized.
The iron oxide pigments obtainable by the process stand out to those obtained by the process of patent 902 163, by even greater gloss and color strength, especially with light red and bright red tones, off.
