Abstract

A microwave container for heating food in a microwave oven is made of an electrically conductive material, in particular aluminium. The container has a lid (2) made of an electrically non-conductive material, such as plastic or the like, which is secured to, and extends laterally beyond, the upper rim (4) of the container. According to the invention, only parts of the lid (2) extend laterally beyond the rim (4) of the container. The intermediate sections of the edge of the lid interlock with the container. If the microwave container is an essentially rectangular parallelepiped, the lid extends advantageously beyond the corner regions (8) of the container.

A microwave container of this type is already known from European patent application 0 3.61 739. This known container has a lid that is put on, which surrounds the entire edge of the container with its rim and thus prevents direct contact with the oven walls on all sides of the container, thereby preventing sparks from jumping over and thus malfunctions or even a defect in the oven. However, this lid of the known container has significant disadvantages. It has a complex three-dimensional shape and requires a high level of manufacturing precision to ensure a good fit when it is placed on the edge of the container.
