Description

Method of Polymerizing Vinyl Fluoride Vinyl fluoride is very polymerisation slow and can be according to known polymerisation processes, d. H. on its own or in the presence of solvents and also in emulsion, not or polymerize only to a very small extent. The polymers obtained also have a very low degree of polymerization.

It has now been found that you can vinyl fluoride with a yield of Can polymerize up to about 50% if the polymerization is carried out in an aqueous emulsion using acidic emulsifiers. As such -emulsifiers that the Vinyl fluoride capable of emulsifying to form stable emulsions, are in particular fatty acids, preferably the fatty acids obtained by paraffin oxidation, and also condensation products from ß, ß'-dichlorodiethyl ether and high molecular weight Amines, which are obtained from the fatty acids obtained by paraffin oxidation via the nitriles are available, called. The polymer separates out during the polymerization. It can be removed from the adhering emulsifier and other accompanying substances by washing with Methanol and water are easily freed. The polyvinyl fluoride is insoluble in most solvents, but it dissolves, for example in cyclohexanone and tetrahydrofuran. -The polymerization of vinyl fluoride at temperatures above 50 ° under pressures above Zoo Atm. is not claimed here.

- Example 30 g of fatty acid obtained by paraffin oxidation, 2 g of sodium hydrosulphite and 100 g of water are placed in a 3; 5-1 autoclave made of stainless steel, and the mixture is stirred for one hour. 301 g of potassium persulfate are then added and 700 g of liquefied vinyl fluoride are pressed in. The whole is then heated to 50 to 7, d ° ' for 70 hours while stirring. There is a pressure of about SoAtm. a. About -O2o g of polyvinyl fluoride with a fluorine content of 37.5 ° 10 and a K value of 40 (measured in cyclohexanone or tetrahydrofuran) are obtained, while the rest of the vinyl fluoride is recovered unchanged.
