In the previously used adjusting devices on threshing machines, the short straw and the chaff coming from the threshing drum and the straw shakers are put together on one and the same sieve, the so-called. Chaff sieve (caving riddle) , which serves to remove the short straw with empty ear heads, thistle heads or the like from the side of the machine, while broken heads with seeds in them, as well as isolated short pieces of straw, coffee and grain go through the sieve to open a row of sieves following one another to be further separated from one another. "Coffee sieve" (chaff riddle), which is erroneously called "chaff sieve", separates the coffee from the machine, and the following "grain sieve" (coping riddle) serves to let the grain pass through while the occasional short ones Straw parts of ears, poppy heads etc. (copings) can be removed from the side of the machine.
