Description

KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL

PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.

According to DRP No. 43977 of July 17, 1887, decomposed aluminate liquors are obtained in which the ratio of the molecules of AL 2 O 3 : JVa 2 O is approximately 1: 6. According to my observations, these act like caustic soda in many cases. In the process protected by the above-mentioned patent, these solutions were mixed again with bauxite after evaporation and exposed to the heat of the furnace in order to obtain crude aluminate again, which decomposes again after dissolution and filtration.

According to my investigations now these solutions are able when they are evaporated down to 40 to 44 0 B., from the bauxite, the alumina direct to dissolve when the same with the evaporated solution with continued stirring at a pressure of 3 to 4 atmospheres and the corresponding temperature (160 to 172 0 C.) treated by 1Y 2 to 2 hours.

If the bauxite was powdered finely enough and there is not much silica present, the alumina is dissolved or removed to the extent of traces. except for an amount which, with the approximately dissolved silica and the corresponding amount of sodium bicarbonate as the well-known double compound Na. 2 O AL 2 O 3 3 Si O 2 + 9 aq remains.

In the usual red French bauxite with 61 pCt. AL 2 O 3 and about 3 pCt. Si O 2 are regularly 59 pCt. the alumina in solution transferred when decomposed liquor and bauxite are brought together in the Verhältnifs, that after the treatment a solution result irish PUFA which a Molecularverhältnifs of ^ Ii 2 O 3: Na ,, O = 1: 1.75 to 1.85 shows; this corresponds to a yield of at least 96 pCt. the existing clay.

The apparatus necessary for this purpose is a pressure vessel made of half-inch sheet iron with the necessary fittings as a safety valve, stirring device, manometer, pressure pipe and filling opening. As can easily be seen, it can be of comparatively small dimensions for a considerable production, which circumstance precludes any danger in the work. Likewise, the consumption of fuel and manpower for service is quite insignificant and hardly worth mentioning. For example, about 4,000 to 5,000 kg of bauxite can be digested daily in a pressure vessel 2 ] / 2 m long and 1 m in diameter, and the consumption of fuel and manpower for this is hardly Y 15 from that required for one or more corresponding flame furnaces, apart from that , that a ready-made solution is obtained, while when working with flame furnaces the solution must first be prepared from the dry raw aluminate.

Der nach der Aufschliefsung zurückbleibende rothe eisenhaltige Rückstand setzt sich gut ab und läfst sich bei einiger Praxis gut filtriren undThe red iron-containing residue remaining after the digestion settles out well and with some practice it can be filtered and filtered well

auswaschen. Due to its high iron and low alumina content, it can still be used in suitably processed or fused together with other iron ores on iron will.
