Description
Process for the production of water glass-containing insulating compounds Es has already been proposed, heat protection masses made of water glass and fillers to produce in such a way that the mixture to achieve a porous structure heated above roo ° C, whereby the escaping water vapors inflate the water glass. The present invention sees a substantial improvement in this process before, by mixing a solution of water glass with a saline solution will. This mixture coagulates like a protein solution by boiling, and the coagulation creates: an intimate combination of water glass and table salt and water, with the result that the body thus formed becomes more uniform when heated puffs up than the water glass previously used for this purpose; because that by mixing A solution of water glass and table salt will not dissipate when heated only inflated by the evaporation of the water contained in it, but finds it at the same time the crystals of the table salt burst (decrepit), which helps to expand the mass. As a result, in the process, one obtains the method according to the present invention an insulating mass of a very low Density and a high insulation capacity. Because of their low volume weight the new insulation compound is particularly suitable for insulating walls and ceilings o. The like. The production of the new insulation is done in such a way that water glass placed in an aqueous, appropriately slightly warmed saline solution and with the same is stirred. The mass resulting from coagulation is initially left drain well. Then it becomes either in a form or in a larger one Piece from which the desired shape is cut out after drying is complete, Completely dried in a drying chamber by slowly increasing the heat. By the gradual evaporation of the water and by the decrepitation of the salt crystals the mass is greatly expanded, and inside it numerous arise small cavities, while a crust forms on the surface. The tightness and strength of the nine insulating compounds can be increased by adding the saline solution Fillers such as clay, kieselguhr, asbestos, sawdust or the like, in small amounts be added.
