Bei den bisherigen Methoden der Darstellung des Fluormagnesiums durch Behandlung von Magnesia mit Fluorwasserstoffsäure oder Zersetzung von Magnesiasalzen mit Fluoralkalien steht die Kostspieligkeit des Verfahrens der technischen Anwendung des genannten Fluorids entgegen.In the previous methods of the preparation of the fluoromagnesium by treatment of Magnesia with hydrofluoric acid or decomposition of magnesia salts with fluoro-alkalis stands the cost of the process of technical application of said fluoride opposite.

Zur Ausführung des Verfahrens wird fein pulverisirtes Fluorcalcium mit überschüssiger concentrirter Lösung des Magnesiumchlorids erhitzt, jedoch nur bis zu einer solchen Temperatur, dafs eine erhebliche Zersetzung des Chlorids in Salzsäure und Base nicht eintritt. Auf dieser Temperatur wird die Mischung erhalten, bis die Umsetzung der Bestandteile derselben in Fluormagnesium und Chlorcalcium stattgefunden hat. Gegen Ende des Processes kann man die Temperatur bis zur theilweisen Zersetzung des überschüssigen Chlormagnesiums steigern. Hierauf läfst man die Masse erkalten, wobei sie erstarrt, weicht sie dann in Wasser auf, event, unter Zusatz von Salzsäure, um die ausgeschiedene Magnesia aufzulösen, und trennt dann durch Auslaugen das unlösliche Fluormagnesium von der löslichen Chlorverbindung. Sollte Fluorcalcium in unzersetztem Zustande zurückgeblieben sein, so läfst sich dieses von dem voluminöseren Fluormagnesium durch Schlämmen absondern.To carry out the process, finely powdered calcium fluoride is mixed with excess concentrated solution of magnesium chloride, but only to such a temperature, that there is no considerable decomposition of the chloride in hydrochloric acid and base.
