Abstract

Equipment for thermoforming plastic films has a mould tool which is radiation heated at one station, covered with the fusible film in another station, and sepd. from the cooled moulding in a third station. To avoid the variable heating produced by reflecting surfaces of the mould tool, the tool is e.g. blackened, or, pref., given a coating which is esp. suitable for the frequency range of the radiation heat. The heating oven used, however, requires to have a high reflectivity for effective heating, and, in addn., the tool should be rotated in the oven. Such rotation is partic. desirable when the mould tool has e.g. undercuts. Alternatively the radiant heater itself can be rotated about the tool to produce uniform heating. These actions have the effect of optimal utilisation of the energy provided. ADVANTAGE - The system heats the film efficiently (unlike earlier but similar equipment).
