Abstract

A strip is transferred from a coil on an unwinding reel to a processing section by a displaceable guide table with a pair of hinged clamping rollers and a wedge which can be moved into the gusset between coil and leading edge of the strip. This table has two guide planes for the strip and the clamping rolls can be arranged for the gap between them to lie in one of the two planes. When the rolls have clamped the leading edge, the table is displaced until the edge is passed into the first pair of a set of drive rollers.
