Description
Capillary tube for thermometers and the like with a parabolic cross-section and a mercury thread at the focal point of the parabola. With the previously used Thermometers and similar measuring instruments in which a mercury, alcohol o. The like. Thread was worked, it was only possible to enlarge the thread in terms of its width to achieve that either the visible surface of the glass tube lenticular or a reflection on the rear parabolic or parabolic surface of the capillary tube brought about by depositing.
The subject of the invention now forms a Capillary roll for thermometers and the like, in which it is achieved that the thread in full width of the pipe appears without a deposit being required. According to the invention this is the case with a capillary stirrer with a parabolic cross-section, at its focal point the mercury thread lies, without any mirror coating, achieved by the visible surface forms the vertex of the parabola.
The arrangement can be seen from the drawing. A bundle of rays falls from the observer's eye a onto the glass body b, the front surface c of which has the parabolic curvature. The central ray d, which falls perpendicularly on the front surface, that is, passes through it uninterrupted, hits the capillary e. The remaining rays that fall on the front surface, e.g. B. the two marginal rays f and g are refracted by the front surface c in such a way that they also intersect at the focal point in which the capillary e is located. For the observer's eye a , the image of the capillaries e appears in the extension of the rays ag and af on the line li. This is the greatest possible broadening that can be theoretically and practically achieved. In this way, the possibility of reading does not present any difficulties even at a great distance.
