Abstract
1. A vessel for a melting furnace, particularly an electric furnace, consisting of a refractory vessel wall which is composed, above the level of the melt, of a plurality of removable cooling units provided with water cooling or evaporation cooling and of vessel supports which are distributed at the circumference of the vessel, disposed at the outside of the vessel wall and connected to the supporting structure of the bottom of the vessel, as well as an upper edge carrying the vessel cover, the upper edge consisting of individual edge portions connected to the cooling units and each edge portion being composed of a plurality of different sections rigidly connected to one another, characterized in that each edge portion (6/1, 6/2 ... 6/n) comprises a T section (9), a strong-walled tube (10) to convey the upper coolant and two flat sections (11) resting on the vessel supports (3), each edge portion (6/1, 6/2 ... 6/n) being connected by means of detachable connecting elements (8) to the vessel supports (3) which are self-supporting in the upper region.
