Das Adapterorgan 25 ist in der in Fig. 4 dargestellten bevorzugten Ausgestaltung ein Ringkörper, der aus Kunststoffmaterial in einem Spritzgußverfahren hergestellt ist. Der Ringkörper 25 weist eine Bohrung 26 auf, so daß der Ringkörper 25 auf den Stift 4 aufgesteckt werden kann. PROTECTION CLAIMS

1. Adapter element (25) which can be detachably attached to an ear tag pliers for attaching ear tags to animals for adapting the effective length of a pin (4) provided on a jaw (1) of the ear tag pliers to the depth of an insertion cavity (22) for this pin (4) in a male ear tag part of the ear tag to be attached.

2. Adapter element according to claim 1, in which the adapter element (25) comprises a body with two mutually opposite contact surfaces (28, 27), each for the male ear tag part placed on the pin (4) and for the jaw of the ear tag pliers, and in which the body (25) is provided with an opening (26) extending between the two contact surfaces (27, 28) for the pin (4) of the ear tag pliers to pierce through.

3. Adapter member according to claim 2, wherein the opening is open towards the outer circumference of the adapter member so that the adapter member can be placed laterally on the pin.

4. Adapter member according to claim 2 or 3, wherein the

Adapter element (25) is provided with clamping means (29) for releasably clamping the adapter element onto the pin (4) of the ear tag pliers.

5. Adapter element according to one or more of the preceding claims 2 to 4, in which the body (25) of the adapter element is a body made in one piece from plastic.

6. Unit of a male ear tag part (20) having a shaft (21) provided with an insertion cavity (22) and one or more associated adapter members (25) according to one or more of the preceding claims.

7. Unit of a material consisting essentially of plastic

manufactured male ear tag part (20) which has a shaft (21) provided with an insertion cavity (22) and an associated adapter member (25) according to claim 5, in which the adapter member is made of a plastic material of a color representative of the size of the adapter member, and in which at least a part of the male ear tag part (20) is made of the same color plastic as the associated adapter member.

8. Unit of an ear tag pliers for attaching two-part ear tags with a jaw provided with a pin for receiving the male ear tag part and an adapter member according to one or more of claims 1 to 5.

9. Unit according to claim 8, wherein the pin (4) of the ear tag pliers is provided with a recess (30) and the adapter member (25) is provided with a resilient projection (29) which falls into the recess in the pin in order to hold the adapter member on the pin.

10. A system for attaching ear tags to animals, comprising:

- an ear tag pliers with a jaw provided with a pin having an effective length, a two-part ear tag comprising a male ear tag part having a shaft provided with an insertion cavity with an insertion depth into which the pin of the ear tag pliers is inserted when attaching the

Ear tag to the animal’s ear, and
- an adapter element which can be detachably attached to the ear tag pliers for adapting the effective length of the pin of the ear tag pliers to the insertion depth of a recess for this pin in the male ear tag part of the ear tag to be applied.

11. System according to claim 10, wherein the adapter member is designed according to one or more of claims 1 to 5.
