Mouthpiece for making your own smoking products

The invention relates to a mouthpiece for the self-production of smoking products by connecting the mouthpiece to a tobacco portion that can be smoked per se, consisting of a mouthpiece part wrapped in mouthpiece covering paper.

A wide variety of methods are known for making cigarettes yourself, such as (a) rolling your own cigarette papers by hand and with devices, (b) stuffing cigarette paper tubes yourself with stuffing devices, (c) stuffing cigarette paper tubes yourself using a tobacco rod contained in an auxiliary packaging, which is pushed into the cigarette paper tube by means of an ejector slide, and (d) pushing tobacco cartridges or cigarettes into a filter cigarette paper tube by hand, whereby the tobacco cartridges or cigarettes are surrounded by a wrapper made of completely smokable material, but which is so permeable to air that the cigarette itself cannot be smoked, but can only be consumed by smoking after it has been placed in a cigarette paper tube.

The latter method presents difficulties because the cigarette should be easy to insert into the cigarette tube, but it should also fit snugly against the inside of the cigarette paper tube without any air leaks. To solve this problem, it was proposed to insert the tobacco cartridge into the cigarette paper tube using a funnel while compressing the tobacco rod (EP-B-0 178 605) or to bevel the end of the tobacco cartridge (DE-PS 41 07 027) or to make it conically tapered (DE-ü-89 01 334) or to use blowing agents to improve the adhesion of the inserted cigarette (EP-B-O 275 414) or to make the wrapper of the wrapper structured (DE-C-37 44 670) or finally to perforate the wrapper of the wrapper in a spiral shape (EP-B-O 178 605).

In order to avoid the difficulties and disadvantages that arise with this type of self-production of filter cigarettes, the present invention has set itself the task of proposing a completely new concept for the self-production of smokable products, e.g. filter cigarettes, which is based on the fact that instead of the plug-in cigarettes, which cannot be smoked because of their porous wrapping, a preferably rod-shaped, filterless, smokable smoking product is used, which can be smoked like a cigarette or a cigarillo because of its relatively air-impermeable wrapping, whereby the wrapping consists of normal cigarette paper.

or is designed like a cigarillo according to DE OS 43 34 222.1. These can be sold in individual sections or in extra-long rods, whereby the consumer can cut off the desired length of the tobacco product depending on his smoking habits. In order to be able to smoke such sections of a rod-shaped smoking product as a filter cigarette, the new principle provides for a mouthpiece into which the appropriately cut part of a rod-like tobacco product is inserted.

The present invention has set itself the task of proposing a further solution for the better holding of rod-shaped tobacco products that can be smoked separately, which enables such tobacco portions to be smoked without affecting their taste, furthermore makes them considerably easier to insert and at the same time ensures better holding of these rod-shaped tobacco products.

To solve this problem, a mouthpiece of the type defined at the outset is therefore proposed, which is characterized according to the main claim, with further preferred embodiments being listed in the subclaims.

This ensures that the rod-shaped filterless tobacco portion, which can be smoked separately, is held in an air-permeable carrier tube, which is wrapped with a tipping paper on the mouth side and can contain a filter plug.

In one variant, this carrier tube can consist of a porous fleece made of smokable material such as cellulose, and in another variant it can consist of a porous non-smokable material such as aluminum oxide or a wire mesh, which allows it to be used multiple times.

A system for making a cigarette yourself is known from DE-OS 39 03 494, according to which a conventional cigarillo is inserted into the tobacco receiving chamber from a wrapper made of cigarette paper and a tight coating of the tobacco portion is required.

Such cigarette paper tubes have the disadvantage that with the usual cigarette paper porosity of e.g. 20 to 60 Coresta units (CU) air permeability, the burning of the cigarillo and thus the taste are significantly negatively influenced due to the then lower overall air permeability, especially if the cigarette paper is tightly fitted to the cigarillo, as then the strand ventilation is significantly reduced and the draw resistance is increased.

The carrier tube or the highly porous fleece mouthpiece does not affect these conditions at all, thus providing the desired flavor for a cigarillo, for example, whether smoked with or without a fleece mouthpiece.

The porous carrier tube made of non-smokable inert material also offers the advantage that no additional cellulose material, including the additives it contains, is burned or smoked.

Both variants also have the advantage of making it easier to insert the rod-shaped product, which can be smoked, as it does not need to fit tightly within the carrier tube.

The invention will be explained below using drawings. They show:

The mouthpiece shown in Figure 1 consists of a lining paper 2 which is placed in the mouthpiece area around the mouthpiece part 4, in the present case a hollow filter or cardboard tube, with an air-permeable carrier tube 6 made of a porous material, e.g. a fleece, being provided between this mouthpiece part 4 and the mouthpiece lining paper 2. The length of the mouthpiece part 4, which is designed as a hollow filter or cardboard tube, is shorter than that of the lining paper 2, so that a recess space R is formed in this shortened area, which extends into or merges into a receiving space A for the rod-shaped tobacco portion.

In the embodiment shown in Figure 2, the mouthpiece part 4 ^X is a conventional filter plug which is covered with the porous carrier material 6 or fixed thereto and is covered with or glued to a mouthpiece lining paper 2. Here too, the axial length of the filter plug is shorter than that of the mouthpiece lining paper 2, so that a recess space R is again formed which extends into the receiving space A for the rod-shaped tobacco portion.

In the embodiment shown in Figure 3, the mouthpiece part 4^ consists of a filter plug and a filter plug wrapping paper, which extends in the axial direction beyond the filter plug in a region 8 up to the length of the mouthpiece covering paper 2 and in turn forms a recess space R which extends into the receiving space A for the rod-shaped tobacco portion. The diameter in the recess is slightly smaller than the inner diameter in the receiving space, which allows for better holding of the mouth-side end of the rod-shaped tobacco portion and easier insertion into the receiving space, which has a slightly larger diameter.

In a variant not shown here, the filter plug shown in Figure 3 can be omitted, so that a papyrus-like hollow filter or piece of pipe is present, which also has a recess space of smaller diameter compared to the receiving space A.

In the embodiment of the mouthpiece shown in Figure 4, a filter plug ^4λ is provided on the mouth side, which is shorter in the axial direction than the lining paper. The resulting recess space R contains contour-like projections 10, which serve to better fix the insertion end of the rod-shaped tobacco portion. These contour-like projections 10 can be produced, for example, by trace-like gluing or by embossing and have various geometric shapes, whether these contour-like projections are located in the axial direction or in a screw shape, continuous or interrupted, in the recess space and enable the mouth-side end of the rod-shaped tobacco portion to be fixed in a funnel-like or barbed manner.

Particularly in the embodiment shown in Figure 3 - be it with a filter plug or a papyrus-like hollow mouthpiece - and also in the embodiment according to Figure 4, the seal in the mouthpiece area is crucial for the functionality of the holder of rod-shaped smoking products that can be smoked in themselves, and no longer the tight fit of the rod-shaped smoking product within the carrier tube. While in the embodiment analogous to Figure 3 but with a hollow filter or a papyrus-like cardboard tube, this also serves to seal, in the embodiment with a filter plug, as shown in Figure 3, the protruding area 8 around the recess space R also acts to seal. In both variants, the inner diameter of the hollow filter or the cardboard tube and the recess part R is slightly smaller than the outer diameter of the rod-shaped, filterless and independently smokable tobacco portion to be inserted, whereby the inner diameter of the porous carrier tube 6 is equal to or slightly larger than the outer diameter of the rod-shaped tobacco portion.

The combination of these dimensions surprisingly results in not only the taste improvements brought about by the porous material of the carrier tube, but also in an easy insertion of the rod-shaped tobacco portion and a firm and tight hold of the mouth-side end of the same.

The length of the receiving space A can correspond to that of the rod-shaped tobacco portion to be received; however, it can also be shorter or longer.

Claims (11)

Protection claims 1.) Mouthpiece for the self-production of smoking products by connecting the same to a rod-shaped tobacco portion which can be smoked per se, consisting of a mouthpiece part wrapped in mouthpiece covering paper, characterized in that an air-permeable carrier tube (6) is provided between the mouthpiece covering paper (2) and the mouthpiece part (4, 4 ^X , 42 ^&lgr; ), which projects beyond the mouthpiece part on one side and forms a receiving space (A) for the rod-shaped tobacco portion. 2.) Mouthpiece according to claim 1, characterized in that the carrier tube (6) consists of a porous fleece made of smokable material. 3.) Mouthpiece according to claim 1, characterized in that the carrier tube (6) consists of a porous carrier made of non-smokable material. 4.) Mouthpiece according to one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the mouthpiece part at the mouth-side end is a papyrus-like tube (4) whose length is shorter than that of the covering paper (2) and forms a recess (R) in the receiving space (A) of the carrier tube (6) for holding the mouth-side end of the rod-shaped tobacco portion; (Figure 1). 5.) Mouthpiece according to one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the mouthpiece part is a filter plug (4 ^Λ ) whose length is shorter than that of the covering paper (2) and forms a recess (R) in the receiving space (A) of the carrier tube (6) for holding the mouth-side end of the rod-shaped tobacco portion; (Figure 2) . 6.) Mouthpiece according to one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the mouthpiece part is a papyrus-like tube (4 ^&lgr;&lgr; ), the length of which corresponds approximately to that of the covering paper (2) and forms a recess (R) at the tobacco-side end in the receiving space (A) of the carrier tube (6) for holding the mouth-side end of the rod-shaped tobacco portion. 4.) Mouthpiece according to one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the mouthpiece part at the mouth-side end is a papyrus-like tube (4) whose length is shorter than that of the covering paper (2) and forms a recess (R) in the receiving space (A) of the carrier tube (6) for holding the mouth-side end of the rod-shaped tobacco portion; (Figure 1). 5.) Mouthpiece according to one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the mouthpiece part is a filter plug ( ^4λ ) whose length is shorter than that of the covering paper (2) and forms a recess (R) in the receiving space (A) of the carrier tube (6) for holding the mouth-side end of the rod-shaped tobacco portion (Figure 2). 6.) Mouthpiece according to one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the mouthpiece part is a papyrus-like tube (42 ^x ), the length of which corresponds approximately to that of the covering paper (2) and forms a recess (R) at the tobacco-side end in the receiving space (A) of the carrier tube (6) for holding the mouth-side end of the rod-shaped tobacco portion. 7.) Mouthpiece according to claim 6, characterized in that the mouthpiece part has a filter plug at the mouth-side end, which is covered by a filter leaf or a papyrus-like tube (42 ^&lgr; ) which has a free, tubular region (8) extending into the receiving space (A) and forming a recess (R) for holding the mouth-side end of the rod-shaped tobacco portion; (Figure 3). 8.) Mouthpiece according to one of claims 1 to 5, characterized in that contour-like projections (10) are provided in the recess space (R) for holding the mouth-side end of the rod-shaped tobacco portion; (Figure 4). 9.) Mouthpiece according to one of claims 1 to 8, characterized in that the length of the porous carrier tube (6) is at least 20 mm to 120 mm. 10.) Mouthpiece according to one of claims 1 to 9, characterized in that the inner diameter of the porous carrier tube (6) is in a range of 3 to 30 mm. 11.) Mouthpiece according to one of claims 1 to 10), characterized in that the air permeability of the porous carrier tube (6) is in the range of one thousand to one hundred thousand Coresta units (CU).
