Container carrier

The subject matter of the invention is a carrier for cans or other containers with a conical shell section and a laterally projecting edge according to the preamble of claim 1.

The invention is aimed in particular at cans with a jacket section tapered towards one end and a flanged edge delimiting this end, but can also be applied to bottles with crown caps or other containers.

From FR 2 363 493 a carrier of the type mentioned above is known, which has a cover part made of a single cardboard

During transport, this carrier is subject to considerable deformation by the bottles, even to destruction. This can be counteracted to a certain extent by using heavy and therefore more expensive cardboard qualities. Another disadvantage is that the tongues can easily unlock due to mechanical influences or as a result of exposure to moisture, releasing the inserted bottles.

A similar support is known from WO 93/14993, which is stabilized by additional walls on the long and short sides of the lid part. The additional walls increase the effort and do not eliminate the problem of the undesired release of the container edges by the tongues. This is particularly acute in cans due to the relatively small support surfaces under the flanged edges.

Based on this, the invention is based on the object of creating a support for containers with a conical wall section and a laterally projecting edge, which has great stability and security against unlocking of the tongues.

A carrier that solves the problem is specified in claim 1. Advantageous embodiments of the carrier are contained in the subclaims.

In contrast to the known designs, a carrier according to the invention has two lid parts made of flat material, for which cardboard is preferably used. The two lid parts of the carrier can be stacked on top of one another with recesses that are concentrically aligned with one another. The tongues are distributed over the inner circumferences of the recesses in such a way that the inner circumference sections of one lid part that have tongues are assigned to tongue-free inner circumference sections of the other lid part and vice versa. The inner circumference sections that have tongues are preferably at an angular distance of 45° from one another, so that the tongue-free inner circumference sections are at a corresponding angular distance from one another. In particular with an angular distance of 45°, the inner circumference sections that have tongues can each have two tongues in order to provide favorable support for the flanged edge of cans. Due to the allocation of tongue-containing and tongue-free inner peripheral sections of adjacent cover parts, the tongues of both cover parts can be folded up and the tongues of the lower cover part can pass through the recesses of the upper cover part.

The tongues of the lower lid part are, however, prevented from folding further around their hinge line by the tongue-free inner peripheral sections of the upper lid part and are thereby secured in their folding position. This means that both lid parts can be placed on the conical shell section of containers and locked with their tongues behind their laterally projecting edges. The upper lid part secures the tongues of the lower lid part in their locking position and is also secured in its locking position by its own tongues. Gluing the two lid parts together is not necessary for secure locking. In addition, the additional lid part ensures that the carrier is very stable, whereby light-weight cardboard qualities can also be used. The carrier can also have more than two lid parts for further stabilization, which can also be provided with tongues or can be placed tongueless between two lid parts.

The recesses of the lower cover part can have a larger diameter than the recesses of the upper cover part so that the tongues of the first-mentioned cover part can be securely separated from the tongue-free sections of the

second-mentioned lid part are pressed against the edge of the container. The articulations of the tongues can have scored lines on the side of the lid part facing the edge of the container, which make it easier to fold up the tongues and, by supporting the tongues on the top of the lid part, cause the tongues to be further locked in place.

Furthermore, the cover parts can have finger grip openings assigned to one another. The cover parts preferably have identical outer contours.

Finally, at least one cover part can have side edges on the long and/or short sides, which can be used in particular for advertising purposes. The upper cover part is preferably equipped with side walls, because then the underlying cover part is covered.

Above the group of six cans 1 there is a lower lid part 4 and above that an upper lid part 5. The lid parts 4, 5 are essentially congruent. They have straight long and short sides and are rounded at the four corners.

When the side edges of the cover parts 4, 5 are precisely aligned with one another, the tongue-containing regions 12 of the cover part 4 are aligned with the tongue-free inner peripheral sections 15 of the cover part 5 and the tongue-containing inner peripheral sections 13 of the cover part 5 are aligned with the tongue-free inner peripheral sections 14 of the cover part 4. As a result, the tongues 8 and 9 can be folded up when the cover parts 4, 5 are stacked on top of one another without overlapping one another.

Finally, finger grip openings 16, 17 should be mentioned, which are formed in the cover parts 4, 5. The only partially punched-out starting material is still located in the finger grip openings 17 of the cover part 5.

Preferably, the lid parts 4, 5 are placed one after the other on the cans 1. First, the lower lid part 4 with its recesses 6 is pushed over the conical jacket sections 2, whereby the tongues 8 are pushed away from the flanged edge 3

are folded up and finally snap behind them. The upper cover part 5 with its recesses 7 is then pushed onto the conical casing sections 2, whereby its tongues 9 are folded up by the flanged edges 3 and finally lock behind them. The tongues δ of the cover part 4 then protrude from the tongue-free inner peripheral sections 15 of the cover part 5, but are locked by them under the flanged edges 3. The tongues 9 are supported with the outer edges of their scoring lines on the upper cover part 5 and are secured in their position behind the flanged edges 3 by this and by their inherent tension.

The carrier can be easily grasped by reaching into the finger openings 16, 17, whereby the material residues in the cover part 5 are folded downwards.
