Description
Plastifiziertes CellulosenitratPlasticized cellulose nitrate
The invention relates to plasticized cellulose nitrate, consisting of cellulose nitrate with a nitrogen content of 12.6% by weight or less. It is known to use plasticized cellulose nitrate in the production of paints and varnishes, in particular in the production of leather varnishes and furniture varnishes. It is also used in the production of adhesives and printing inks, in particular for packaging gravure printing, flexographic printing and screen printing. The use of plasticizer-cellulose nitrate mixtures significantly improves the adhesive strength, the use in reactive systems (e.g. diisocyanates) and the processing properties of these products.
Dabei werden überwiegend phthalathaltige Weichmacher dem Cellulosenitrat-Ge-In this process, mainly phthalate-containing plasticizers are added to the cellulose nitrate
H phthalate (DOP/DEMP) or dibutyl phthalate (DBP). However, these substances have significant disadvantages in terms of environmental compatibility and health risks. Dioctyl phthalate or dibutyl phthalate can potentially impair fertility and cause harm to the unborn child in the womb. In addition, dibutyl phthalate can have long-term harmful effects in water.
• ··
It is therefore known, for example from EP O 472 076 A1, to use epoxidized soybean or linseed oil as substitutes for plasticizers containing phthalates. Although these substances are characterized by the fact that they are neither hazardous to health nor harmful to the environment, they are not optimally compatible with cellulose nitrate.
The object of the invention is to create a plasticized cellulose nitrate which is characterized by a very low health risk and high environmental compatibility, whereby the plasticizer component is very compatible with the cellulose nitrate and is resistant to migration with low solvent retention.
It has been found that this object can be achieved by a mixture of cellulose nitrate with a nitrogen content of less than 12.6% by weight and esters of adipic acid and/or citric acid and/or sebacic acid and/or esters of sugars and/or polyols with various acids and/or rosin derivatives as phthalate-free plasticizers or plastic resins.
Folgender Ester sind hierbei bevorzugt geeignet:To produce the cellulose nitrate-plasticizer mixtures according to the invention, commercially available cellulose nitrates of different viscosity levels with a nitrogen content of 10-12.6% by weight are preferably used. Preferred mixtures are those consisting of 82-40% by weight, preferably 82-75% by weight, cellulose nitrate and 1860% by weight, preferably 18-25% by weight, esters of adipic acid and/or citric acid and/or sebacic acid and/or esters of sugars and/or polyols with various acids and/or rosin derivatives. The following esters are preferably suitable:

The final product is the plasticized cellulose nitrate in the form of solid, colorless, irregularly broken platelets, which are also called colorless chips.
The properties of the phthalate-free plasticizers or plasticizer resins in cellulose nitrate according to the invention will be explained in more detail below in comparison to conventional types of plasticizer:
The known phthalate-containing plasticizers such as dioctyl phthalate (DBP) and dibutyl phthalate (DOP) as well as epoxidized soybean or linseed oil on the one hand and the phthalate-free plasticizers according to the invention dibutyl sebacetic acid (DBS), diisobutyl adipate (DIBA), dioctyl adipate (DOA), triethyl citrate (TEC), acetyl tributyl citrate (ATBC) as well as the soft resins sucrose acetoisobutyrate (SAIB), methyl dihydroabietate (Hercolyn D) and polyester polyol Rokraphen 145 on the other hand were investigated with regard to their cold resistance, light resistance to yellowing, gelatinization behavior, heat resistance, stretchability, kink resistance, gloss behavior, reactivity, migration resistance and solvent retention. The results of these investigations are set out in Table 1.
The investigations showed that the phthalate-free plasticizer types according to the invention are superior to the previously known phthalate-free epoxidized soybean oil in every respect with regard to the investigated properties. But even compared to the known phthalate-containing plasticizers DBP and DOP, at least comparable, if not better, results can be achieved with the plasticizer types according to the invention in cellulose extracts. It follows from this that, based on
Due to the physical properties investigated, the plasticizer types according to the invention have considerable advantages over the previously known plasticizer types.
In addition, the phthalate-free plasticizers or soft resins according to the invention are characterized by good compatibility with cellulose nitrate, low environmental hazard and low health risk. In addition, the soft resins are characterized by low solvent retention and good migration resistance. Table 1 also lists both the labeling according to the Hazardous Substances Ordinance in Germany and the approval of the "Food and Drug Association" in the USA for coatings on food packaging as an evaluation standard.
