PATENTSCHRIFTPATENT LETTERING
KLASSE 64: Schankgeräthschaften.CLASS 64: Dispensing equipment.
Patentirt im Deutschen Reiche vom 26. März 1884 ab.Patented in the German Empire on March 26, 1884.
The subject of the present invention is a novel hermetic closure for glasses, Jugs, bottles, in general for vessels that are used to store canned fruits, Fruit juices, jellies and canned foods of all kinds are intended.
To make the new closure I use vessels, the uppermost part of which is included two or more annular or helical beads is provided.
In the accompanying drawing, Fig. 1 shows the uppermost part of one with three and Fig. 2 shows the uppermost part of a vessel provided with two ring-shaped bulges. Fig. 3 shows the tin foil capsule used before it is attached to the vessel. Fig. 4 illustrates the manner in which the capsule is attached to the vessel and FIGS. 5 and 6 show the upper part of a vessel provided with helical bulges and the closure in section and in elevation.
Before the vessel is filled with the substance to be stored in the absence of air, the space between the two upper rings or screw threads is coated with a small amount of a binding agent that is suitable for bonding between the tin foil and the material from which the vessel is made Must be more or less fluid at higher temperatures, so preferably with shellac. After this binding agent has solidified, the vessel can be filled, and a glass plate, which is also perfectly flat on its underside, is then first placed on the top edge of the vessel, which has just been ground off. When this is done, the tin-foil capsule A is put over the neck of the vessel, which capsule must be of the appropriate diameter and long enough to reach over the lowest bulge or the lowest screw thread. The tinfoil capsule is now pressed with the fingers into the furrows between the ring or screw beads so that the capsule walls are as close as possible to the neck of the vessel. The vessel with the closure prepared in this way is now heated to such an extent that the binding agent melts, seeping out towards the highest part of the bulges and forming a completely tight closure when it solidifies. In order to prevent the paint from escaping during the heating process, a rubber ring b can be attached to the neck of the vessel below the annular groove containing the paint, which rubber ring is removed again after the paint has cooled.
For vessels that are intended for shipping in moderate climates, two are sufficient Annular beads 1, 2, while three beads 1, 2, 3 are required for shipping to tropical areas are. The furrow between the beads 2 and 3 then serves to accommodate a taut to be attracted to the bundle of wire, which has the purpose of the possibly melting binding agent to prevent it from flowing out, so that the seal remains permanently hermetic.
To open such vessels it is sufficient to insert a knife or thumb nail through the tinfoil sleeve between the cover plate α and the edge of the vessel.
In the case of vessels whose contents are only to be kept for a short period of time and which are unlikely to be tipped over, the plate α can be replaced by a parchment disk which, of course, is not put on when the closure is made, but rather placed in the tinfoil capsule.
