Abstract

The wax is molten and removed from the precision mould of a lost wax casting machine by introducing into the structure of the mould a material with a high loss factor (over 1, 0) in the frequency range from 300 to 30,000 MNz (900-2500 MHz). The preferred material is graphite or carbon in the form of a coating. The mould is then irradiated by microwaves of this range until the wax has become liquefied. This is less expensive than using solvents and releases no toxic fumes. It is easier to operate and to include in a flow line production than wet steam heating in an autoclave. The wax is molten on the surface before thermal elongation can crack the ceramic shell. The process is automatic and continuous.
