Handelsübliche Verschlußsysteme sind stets eine Kopplung von einem zu verschließenden Körper (Flasche, Dose, Kanister etc.) und einem Verschlußkörper (Korken, Kronkorken, Gewindeverschluß, Pfropfen etc.). Beide Teile dienen dazu ein Medium (z.B. Getränk) im Behälter zu halten und zu konservieren. Handelsübliche Luftpumpen oder Pumpen anderer Medien dienen stets der Förderung von Medien und / oder der Druckerhöhung z.B. zwecks Kraftspeicherung.Container closures on the one hand and pumps on the other are well known in technology and in everyday use. Am Beispiel einer Limonade (oder Cola) in einer Einweg-Plastikflasche zeigt sich das Problem am deutlichsten:

Beim ersten Öffnen entweicht überschüssige Kohlensäure aus dem oberen Gas-Bereich der Flasche, und die Flaschenform gibt schon unter dem leichten Druck der Hände nach. Nach Entnahme eines Teils der Flüssigkeit wird die Flasche meistens wieder verschlossen. Der nun größere Gas-Bereich der Flasche wird solange durch den kleineren Flüssigkeitsbereich durch entweichende Kohlensäure gesättigt, bis annähernd der Anfangsdruck wieder hergestellt ist. Hierbei hat, wie oben beschrieben, die Limonade an Kohlensäuregehalt verloren. Dünnwandige Kunststofflaschen sind beim Geschmacksverlust am schlimmsten, da nicht nur die Druckerhöhung, sondern auch die ursprüngliche Flaschenform durch die in der Limonade befindliche Kohlensäure hergestellt werden muß. Der Geschmacksverlust führt für den Konsumenten dazu den letzten Teil (bis zu 1/3) vorzeitig zu entsorgen statt zu konsumieren.
