Description

The invention relates to a piece of seating furniture with a frame, a backrest, a seat cushion and a leg rest, wherein the leg rest is foldably connected to the seat cushion via a scissor grid and the leg rest is folded essentially under the seat cushion in the non-use position and is folded out in front of the seat cushion in the use position in such a way that the seat surface is extended by the leg rest.

From DE 197 00 617 Al, a chair has become known in which a two-part leg extension can be folded out using a parallelogram construction.

The seat is extended in such a way that the legs can rest on it along its entire length. However, there are transverse slits between the seat cushion and the two leg rests, which may be undesirable.

The invention is therefore based on the object of providing a piece of seating furniture of the type mentioned above, which has an even more attractive design.

The object is achieved according to the invention with a piece of seating furniture of the type mentioned at the outset in that the seat cushion and the leg rest have continuous padding.

If, in the seating furniture according to the invention, the leg rest is folded out from its resting position beneath the seat cushion into its working position, whereby the leg rest extends the seat cushion in such a way that the leg can rest comfortably on it over its entire length, then there is no transverse slot between the seat cushion and the leg rest, since the upholstery is continuous from the seat cushion to the leg rest. The seat cushion extends virtually to the end of the leg rest. The material of the upholstery can be fabric, leather, plastic or a mixture of these. In addition, the upholstery can be lined or padded throughout.

In a further development, the padding in the joint area between the seat cushion and the leg rest is elastic. This prevents the padding from warping when the leg rest is folded in and/or out. In addition, the geometry of the scissor grille is designed in such a way that the padding is taut when the leg rest is folded out. This means that the seating furniture has an attractive design not only when the leg rest is folded in but also when it is unfolded, whereby the transition from the seat cushion to the leg rest is almost invisible when the leg rest is unfolded.

In one embodiment, the leg rest is pivoted and extended at the same time when it is unfolded. This enables the upholstery to be tightened, with the travel distance being such that the upholstery is only tightened, but not stretched. The geometry of the scissor-type grid is such that the distance to be bridged by the upholstery between the seat cushion and the unfolded leg rest corresponds to the curved section of the upholstery from the seat cushion to the leg rest when the leg rest is folded in.

In a preferred embodiment, the seat cushion is raised when the leg rest is unfolded. In this way, leg rests can also be used,

whose length is greater than the distance between the front edge of the seat cushion and the floor. Normally, such leg rests would collide with the seat cushion and the floor when unfolded. However, if the seat cushion is lifted when the leg rest is unfolded, these leg rests can also be used.

For this purpose, according to the invention, the front area of the seat cushion is connected to the frame via an arm of the scissor-type grid. The arm is preferably coupled to the frame via a steering lever, so that the arm and the steering lever form a knee lever construction. With this knee lever, in particular by operating the steering lever, the front area of the seat cushion is raised so that the leg rest can be easily folded out.

One embodiment provides that the arm or the steering lever is coupled to a drive. This drive is not only used to raise the seat cushion, but also to adjust the scissor grille, i.e. to fold out or fold in the leg rest. A gas pressure spring or a drive motor is preferably used for the drive. Gas pressure springs are simple in construction and are used universally in the furniture sector, but they are also inexpensive and durable. A drive motor has

The advantage is that the scissor gate can be moved in both directions without external force.

In a particularly preferred variant of the invention, the arm and the steering lever assume a self-locking position when the leg rest is folded in, in which they are held by the drive. When the leg rest is folded in, the knee lever construction formed by the arm and steering lever passes through a neutral position in which the drive cannot move the knee lever to one side or the other. The rest position of the folded-in leg rest is assumed when the knee lever has moved beyond this neutral position to a position in which the drive drives the knee lever to the other side, but in which it is blocked by a stop. In this way, the leg rest is held stable in this rest position.

In an independent invention, it is provided that the seat cushion, together with the backrest and the leg rest, is pivotably connected to the frame via a pivot bearing. The seat cushion can be pivoted via this pivot bearing between two or more positions, i.e. inclination positions of the seat cushion and backrest unit. For this purpose, the pivot bearing has a guide, via which the pivot

positions are defined. The frame of the seating furniture is provided with a roller that moves within the guide. The guide is provided with defined rest positions for the roller, in which the roller is held by means of a locking latch. In this way, the frame is kept stable in the end positions and, if necessary, also in intermediate positions.

Further advantages, features and details of the invention emerge from the subclaims and the following description, in which a particularly preferred embodiment is described in detail with reference to the drawing. The features shown in the drawing and mentioned in the description and in the claims can each be essential to the invention in themselves.

In Figures 1 to 5, the reference numeral designates a piece of seating furniture, in particular an armchair. This seating furniture 10 has a frame 12, which forms armrests 14 and in which, among other things, a seat cushion 16, a backrest 18 and an adjustment mechanism 20 for a folding lattice 22 and a gas pressure spring 24 for the backrest 18 are arranged. A leg rest 28 is coupled to the front area 26 of the seat cushion 16 via the folding lattice 22, which can be adjusted by means of the folding lattice 22 from the position shown in Figure

The scissor grille 22 is driven by a further gas pressure spring 38, which engages on the one hand on the support frame 30 and on the other hand on the scissor grille 22.

The seat cushion 16 and the leg rest 28 are connected to one another at their upper side via a padding 40 which extends completely over the seat cushion 16 and the leg rest 28. At least in the joint area 42, the padding 40 is designed to be elastic so that the padding 40 can easily follow the movement of the leg rest 28.

The scissor gate 22 can be described more clearly in the position of Figure 3, in which it is partially unfolded. The scissor gate 22 is constructed from a scissor cross with two scissor arms 44 and 46 and two gate arms 48 and 50. The free ends of the scissor arm 44 and the gate arm 48 are pivotally attached to the underside of the seat cushion 16 and the free ends of the scissor arm and the gate arm 50 are pivotally attached to the underside of the leg rest 28 in bearings 52 to 58. The arms 44 to 50 are coupled to one another via pivot bearings 60 to 64. A steering lever 66 engages the gate arm 48 via a pivot bearing, the free end of which is pivotally attached to a bearing 70 of the support frame 30. The steering lever 6 6 is connected via a bearing 72 to the gas pressure spring 3 8, which in turn is supported on the support frame 30 via a pivot bearing 74.

In Figure 1, the leg rest 28 is located in the folded position below the seat cushion 26 and the dimensions of the scissor grille 22 and the steering lever 66 are selected such that in the folded position of the scissor grille 22 the line of action of the gas pressure spring 38 (longitudinal axis of the gas pressure spring 38) is below the bearing 70, so that a force is exerted on the steering lever 66 which attempts to pivot it counterclockwise around the bearing 70. For this purpose

the free end of the gas pressure spring 38 can be attached either directly to the steering lever 66 or (as shown) via a projection. By applying a force to the steering lever 66 which attempts to pivot this steering lever 66 anti-clockwise about the bearing 70, the pivot bearing 68 is also urged in this direction, with the movement being limited by a stop (not shown). The leg rest 28 can therefore only be folded open if the bearing 72 is pivoted clockwise about the bearing 70. This lifts the pivot bearing 68 off this stop, as shown in Figure 2.

The gas pressure spring 38 is released by means of a Bowden cable 76, whereby the Bowden cable 76 is controlled by the adjustment mechanism 20. By operating an adjustment lever, tension is exerted on the Bowden cable 76, whereby the gas pressure spring 38 is unlocked. The leg rest 28 can then be folded out, as shown in the drawing, which is done by exerting slight pressure on the backrest 18, whereby the dead center of the gas pressure spring 38 is overcome. In this case, the two bearings 54 and 56 of the scissor grille 22, which lie close together when the leg rest 28 is folded in, are gradually

from each other, as shown in Figures 1 to 4. As a result, the padding 40 covering the seat cushion 16 and the leg rest 28 is stretched in such a way that it tightly connects the leg rest 28 to the seat cushion 16.

In Figure 3, the adjustment lever 78 of the adjustment mechanism 20 is in its stable rest position, in which none of the Bowden cables 76 and 80 for the gas pressure springs 38 and 24 are actuated. The position of the leg rest shown in Figure 3 is thus a stable intermediate position that is held by the gas pressure spring 38. Figure 3 also shows the backrest 18 in a backwards inclined position, in that it has been tilted about the pivot bearing 34. The gas pressure spring 24 is in the retracted position, which is released by actuating the adjustment lever 78, as shown in Figure 4. This puts the Bowden cable 80 under tension and releases the gas pressure spring 24. The backrest 18 can then pivot into the front position.

As can be seen from Figures 1, 2 and 4, when the leg rest 28 is unfolded, a knee lever formed by the grid arm 48 and the steering lever 66 is gradually extended until the grid arm 48 and the steering lever 66

are aligned with one another and have their maximum common length. Since the steering lever 66 is attached with its free end to the bearing 70 of the support frame 30 and therefore cannot move out of the way, the front area 26 of the seat cushion 16 is raised about the pivot bearing 32 by means of the grid arm 48. Raising the seat cushion 16 enables the leg rest 28 to be folded out from the rest position shown in Figure 1 below the seat cushion 16 into a position in front of the seat cushion 16, which is shown e.g. in Figure 2. In this way, leg rests 28 can be used whose length, when the seating furniture 10 is in the normal position, is greater than the distance of the front area 26 from the floor.

Figure 5 shows the seating furniture 10 with the leg rest 28 folded out, in which the scissor grille 22 is fully extended. However, the seat cushion 16 with leg rest 28 and backrest 18 together with the support frame 30 are pivoted about a bearing 80 into a relaxed position. A support frame 82 with pivot bearing 84 and base frame 86 remains at rest.

For this purpose, the support frame 82 has a guide 88 in which a roller 92 connected to the support frame 30 via an arm 90 can be moved. In the embodiment shown, the guide 80 has

two rest positions, whereby the roller 92 is in one rest position (relaxed position) in Figure 5 and in the other rest position (normal position) in the illustration in Figure 4. In these rest positions, the roller 92 is held by means of a latch 94, which is pressed onto the roller 92 by a spring 96 in such a way that the roller 92 can only leave the rest position by moving the latch 94, against the force of the spring 96.

Figure 6 shows the seating furniture 10 of Figure 1, but there is no pivot bearing 84 attached to the cross member 98. The cross member 98 is rigidly anchored in the frame 12. For this purpose, the frame 12 has feet 100. In the embodiment of Figure 7, the cross member 98 is also attached to the frame, with the frame 12 being equipped with rollers 102.

Claims (17)

1. Seating furniture with a frame ( 12 ), a backrest ( 18 ), a seat cushion ( 16 ) and a leg rest ( 28 ), wherein the leg rest ( 28 ) is connected to the seat cushion ( 16 ) in a foldable manner via a scissor-type grid ( 22 ), and the leg rest ( 28 ) is folded essentially under the seat cushion ( 16 ) in the non-use position and is folded out in front of the seat cushion ( 16 ) in the use position such that the seat surface is extended by the leg rest ( 28 ), characterized in that the seat cushion ( 16 ) and the leg rest ( 28 ) have a continuous upholstery ( 40 ), wherein when the leg rest ( 28 ) is folded out, the length of the section of the upholstery (40) connecting the seat cushion ( 16 ) to the leg rest (28) is essentially a development of the section of the upholstery ( 40 ) connecting the seat cushion (16) to the leg rest ( 28 ) when the leg rest is folded in. ( 28 ) the seat cushion ( 16 ) with the leg rest ( 28 ) connecting the arched section of the upholstery ( 40 ) in the joint area ( 42 ). 2. Seating furniture according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the upholstery ( 40 ) is taut when the leg rest ( 28 ) is folded out. 4. Seating furniture according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the leg rest ( 28 ) is pivoted and extended when unfolded. 5. Seating furniture according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that when the leg rest ( 28 ) is folded out, the seat cushion ( 16 ) is raised. 6. Seating furniture according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the front region ( 26 ) of the seat cushion ( 16 ) is connected to the frame via an arm ( 48 ) of the scissor-type grille ( 22 ). 7. Seating furniture according to claim 6, characterized in that the arm ( 48 ) is connected to the frame via a steering lever ( 66 ). 8. Seating furniture according to claim 7, characterized in that the arm ( 48 ) or the steering lever ( 66 ) is coupled to a drive. 9. Seating furniture according to claim 8, characterized in that the drive is a gas pressure spring ( 38 ) or a drive motor. 10. Seating furniture according to claim 6 or 7, characterized in that the seat cushion ( 16 ) is raised by the arm ( 48 ) and/or the steering lever ( 66 ). 11. Seating furniture according to claim 8, characterized in that the arm ( 48 ) and the steering lever ( 66 ) assume a self-locking position when the leg rest ( 28 ) is folded in, in which position they are held by the drive. 12. Seating furniture according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the seat cushion ( 16 ) together with the backrest ( 18 ) and the leg rest ( 28 ) is pivotally connected to the frame ( 12 ) via a pivot bearing ( 80 ). 13. Seating furniture according to claim 12, characterized in that the pivot bearing ( 80 ) is provided on a support frame ( 82 ) with a link ( 88 ) for at least two stable pivot positions. 14. Seating furniture according to claim 13, characterized in that the seat cushion ( 16 ) is provided with a roller ( 92 ) movable in the guide ( 88 ). 15. Seating furniture according to claim 14, characterized in that the guide ( 88 ) is provided with a latch ( 94 ) locking the roller ( 92 ). 16. Seating furniture according to claim 15, characterized in that the latch ( 94 ) is prestressed by means of a spring ( 96 ) in the direction of the roller ( 92 ). 17. Seating furniture according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the leg rest ( 28 ) can be locked in any intermediate position, in particular via the gas pressure spring ( 38 ).
