Die Schneidtiefe der Schneideisen muß mindestens die Stärke der Kokosnußschale erreichen. Dabei sind die Schneideisen so anzuordnen, daß die Verbindungslinie der beiden vom Scharnier entfernten Schneideisen über dem Mittelpunkt der zu öffnenden Kokosnuß zum Schneiden ansetzen. Damit wird gewährleistet, daß die Kokosnuß in die Halbschalen und damit in die Schneideisen hineingedrückt wird und nicht herausrutschen kann. Darüberhinaus ist an den Halbschalen eine Halterung (3) mit einer Stellschraube angebracht, die die Kokosnuß nach unten hält. Mit der Stellschraube kann eingestellt werden, in welcher Höhe die Kokosnuß durch die Schneideisen aufgeschnit ten wird. An der dem Scharnier entgegengesetzten Seite der Halbschalen wird ein Verschluß angebracht (angearbeitet) in dem zwei Stifte (4) eingesetzt werden, wobei in einen quer zur Länge eine Gewinde geschnitten ist, durch welches ein Gewindestab (5) gedreht wird, der dann die Halbschalen beim Drehen zusammenpreßt. Dabei kann der eine Stift (zum Griff des Gewindestabes hin) fest mit der Halbschale verbunden, aber entlang der Längsachse drehbar gelagert sein.The coconut opener consists of two metallic half shells ( 2 ) which are connected on one side with a hinge ( 2 ). Mit der rechten Hand ergreift man den Gewindestab (5) am Griffstück und preßt durch Drehen des Gewinde stabes die Schneideisen leicht in die Kokosnußschale. Dabei dreht man die Kokosnuß mit der linken Hand und den Öffner mit der rechten Hand ein paar mal hin und her. Anschließend wird der Gewindestab weiter angezogen und wiederholt dabei so oft die Drehbewegungen und das Einpressen der Schneideisen in die Kokosnuß, bis die harte Schale völlig durchtrennt ist (Das Verfahren hier ist ähnlich der Arbeitsweise eines Kupferrohrschneiders). Anschließend kann man die Kokosnuß entnehmen und sicherheitshalber noch einmal entlang der Schnittstelle in der Schale das zarte Kokosfleisch mit einem Messer durchtrennen.
