Als Wärmeaustauschvorrichtung findet die Rohrschlange in der Technik vielfache Verwendung. Es haftete ihr aber bisher der Übelstand an, daß sie keinen befriedigenden Wirkungsgrad hatte, namentlich bei nur einseitiger Erhitzung. Die Einbettung einer Rohrschlange in gerippte oder sonstwie großflächig gestaltete Körper, wie sie z. B. von Serpollet angegeben wurde, verbesserte zwar den Wirkungsgrad, verteuerte aber gleichzeitig die Herstellungskosten in erheblicher Weise. Die vorliegende Neuerung verbessert den Wirkungsgrad bedeutend, während die Herstellungskosten sehr billig sind. Sie besteht darin, daß eine »mit Abstand« gewickelte Rohrschlange mit einem längsgewellten äußeren Mantel umgeben und innen teilweise von einem ebenfalls längsgewellten Einsatzkörper ausgefüllt wird, wodurch um die Windungen der Rohrschlange herum viele sich häufig trennende und wieder vereinigende Wege für das Heizmittel geschaffen werden, die ein häufiges Anprallen des Heizmittels an die Rohrwindungen und infolgedessen ein oft wiederholtes, lebhaftes Durcheinanderwirbeln der Heizgase bewirken, welches zu einer vorzüglichen Ausnutzung der Heizflächen und der Heizgase führt. ...As a heat exchange device, the pipe coil is widely used in technology. Diese Rohrschlange, die an ihren Enden Ein- und Austrittsstutzen (E bezw. A) für die zu erhitzende Flüssigkeit trägt, ist außen mit einem eng anliegenden, der Länge nach gewellten Mantel M umgeben und in ihrem oberen Teile innen von einem mit einem flachen Boden B und einer (gewölbten) Decke D versehenen Körper K ausgefüllt, dessen längsgewellte Seitenwandung M1 einen eng anliegenden inneren Mantel für die Rohrschlange abgibt. Durch diese innere und äußere Ummantelung der Rohrschlange wird das Heizmittel hindurchgeführt, und zwar teils in einem spiralig zwischen den einzelnen Windungen der Schlange hochsteigenden Strome, teils in vielen senkrecht in den Wellen der Mäntel hochgehenden Strömen.
