Bei den Maschinen zur Herstellung von Briefumschlägen, Papierbeuteln u. dgl. pflegt man bisher entweder die ganze Falzvorrichtung auszuwechseln oder die Falzplatten geteilt und gegeneinander verstellbar zu machen, um mit einer und derselben Maschine Umschläge von verschiedener Form und Größe herstellen zu können. In dem ersteren Fall werden die Anlagekosten der Maschine sehr hoch, da die Falzvorrichtung den teuersten Bestandteil der Maschine darstellt. In dem anderen Falle, wo die Falzplatten α im Sinne der Fig. 1 der beiliegenden Zeichnung geteilt sind, ist einerseits der Antrieb sehr umständlich und andererseits bleiben die Umschläge an den mit b bezeichneten Stellen ungepreßt, so daß jede Maschine mit einer sogen.
