Description

Hydraulic fluids The quality requirements for hydraulic fluids are constantly increasing and relate to many properties. So, above all, will be a The lowest possible temperature coefficient of viscosity required, continues to be but also the greatest possible safety against ignition and burning is required. Of course also play the absolute level of viscosity, the stability against the action of water, be it as vapor, be it as liquid, the pour point and, last but not least, the price an important role.

The silicones have been around for a long time because of their extremely low temperature coefficient Viscosity is a useful, but also an expensive class of such liquids. They also belong to the group of relatively flame-retardant substances (cf. W. No 11, »Chemistry und Technologie der Silikone ”, Verlag Chemie, Weinheim [1960], pp.410 to 425). Petroleum fractions from the higher temperature range with suitable physical properties also widely used, but they have a high temperature coefficient viscosity and can only be used to a limited extent due to their flammability (cf. N. W. Furby, R.L. Peeler and R. 1. Stirton, "Oronite High Temperature Hydraulic Fluids", Trans. Am. Soc. Mechan. Eng., 79 [1957], pp. 1029-1037). Esters are also the phosphorous acid and the phosphoric acid and orthosilicic acid esters for this purpose in use (see German patents 916 340 and 937 946). But satisfy even these not in all properties.

It has now been found that for a given absolute viscosity, Esters of defined di- and polysilicic acids have a flatter viscosity-temperature curve the more the silica fraction predominates over the organic ester residue. In other words, it can be said that esters of polysilicic acids in The more complex the polysilicic acid residue, the closer it is to the viscosity of the silicones is. According to the present invention, therefore, long chain (C6 to C15) alkyl esters or cycloalkyl esters of polysilicic acids with 2 to 40 Si atoms, preferably 4 up to 20 Si atoms, used as hydraulic fluids.

Die nachstehende Tabelle verdeutlicht die beschriebenen Vorteile: A I B I C I D I E Viskosität bei 20°C, eSt . . .. . . ... . .. . .. . ... . . .. 88,4 152,4 59,5 85,4 92,2 bei 50°C, cSt .. .. . . .. . ... .... . .. . . .. 24,5 40,2 20,8 27,4 31,5 bei 99°C, cSt . .. . . ... ... . .. . .. . ... .. 6,5 10,6 7,1 8,8 10,3 Selbstentzündungstemperatur, ° C . . . . . . . . . 495 515 555 580 565 Stockpunkt, ° C . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . It can be seen that the greater the proportion of SiO2 compared to the organic residue, the lower the risk of ignition. Furthermore, the pour point of the polyesters is significantly lower than that of the orthoesters. Since the polysilicic acid esters are still much cheaper than the silicones, progress has also been made in this regard. The following table clarifies the advantages described: AIBICIDIE viscosity at 20 ° C, est. . ... . ... ... ... ... . .. 88.4 152.4 59.5 85.4 92.2 at 50 ° C, cSt .. ... . ... ... ..... ... . .. 24.5 40.2 20.8 27.4 31.5 at 99 ° C, cSt. ... . ... .... ... ... ... .. 6.5 10.6 7.1 8.8 10.3 Auto-ignition temperature, ° C. . . . . . . . . 495 515 555 580 565 Pour point, ° C. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . -59 -66 under -70 under -70 under -70 A = orthosilicic acid ester of tridecanol (4-ester).
