B. geringes Gewicht, leichte Spritz- oder Formarbeit, und gegebenenfalls Säurebeständigkeit auch Nachteile auf, die darin bestehen, daß manche Kunststoffe insbesondere gegen Biegungsspannungen sehr empfindlich sind und entweder unmittelbar oder mehr oder weniger lange Zeit nach dem Auftreten äußerer oder innerer Spannungen reißen. Es ist Aufgabe der Erfindung, derartige Kunststoffe in einfacher Weise gegen die Gefahr des Entstehens von Spannungsrissen weitgehend zu schützen. B. durch Passungstoleranzen, etwa beim Einbau von Elektrodenplatten, oder beim Aufsetzen des Gehäusedeckels auf den Batteriekasten oder durch äußere Spannungen, z. B. bei der Halterung der Batterie oder bei Erschütterungen des Fahrzeugs, auftreten können. Da der Schutzüberzug aus praktisch dem gleichen Kunststoff wie der zu schützende Teil besteht, wird er zweckmäßig unauffällig und in derselben Farbe wie der Grundstoff, z. B. auch farblos, aufgetragen. Die Auftragung kann auch so erfolgen, daß eine vorher glatte Oberfläche des Kunststoffteiles nach Aufbringen des Schutzüberzuges mehr oder weniger aufgerauht ist. Schließlich hat sich besonders bei gegen Kraftstoffbenetzung empfindlichem Polystyrol gezeigt, daß der Überzug auch kraftstoffbeständig ist, so daß sich die nachträgliche Aufbringung von kraftstoffempfindlichen Lack auf einen erfindungsgemäß behandelten kraftstoffempfindlichen Polystyrolteil erübrigt.
