Abstract

Although the above reports have been described in which quaternary ammonium salts are used as antimalarial, antifungal, and antileishmanial compounds, the use of talsales containing a halogenated N-methyl substitute as a therapeutic agent against leishmaniasis has not been reported. The compounds described herein, specifically those terminal proportions of arylalkenyl or diarylalkenyl, inhibit the growth of Leishmania panamensis parasites, an agent known to cause deleishmaniasis disease. Additionally, the series of compounds also extends against lamalaria, Chagas disease, toxoplasmosis, and other parasitic diseases.
