Abstract

The present invention relates to a dry process for the recycling of rechargeable lithium ion, lithium polymer and nickel metal hydride batteries and for the direct recovery of cobalt, lithium, nickel, manganese, base metals and liquid electrolyte, where said process allows rechargeable batteries to be recycled safely through mechanical and physicochemical processes that do not produce waste or polluting emissions, in addition to allowing the recovery of three material streams (precursor material with high content of cobalt, lithium, nickel and manganese), zorba material (mixture of metals and lamellar polymers) and liquid electrolyte. One of the main advantages of the present invention is based on the fact that with the present process it is possible to recover precursor materials with a high content of elements classified as strategic and in danger of shortage such as cobalt, lithium and nickel, whose proportions depend on the type of battery entered. In addition, the recovered materials are marketed to be used again in the battery manufacturing industry, closing their life cycle with a sustainable and circular process.
