In order to achieve the above objects of the present invention, a novel crank clamping mechanism is employed, and the tool can be made in the form of a clamp, movable and adjustable in a stepless manner. The tool consists of the following components:
1. a movable jaw and an adjustable jaw corresponding thereto.
2. A fixed handle with an adjustment element and a movable handle with a catch bar therebetween such that when the jaws are closed, the two jaws are held in a stable relationship, the adjustable jaw being pivotally mounted on the fixed handle and the movable handle being pivotally mounted on the adjustable jaw.
3. A long rod, one side of which is smooth and the other side is smooth, is connected with the fixed handle, and the included angle between the two is about 45 degrees to 135 degrees.
4. A support and urging member for moving the movable jaw along the elongate shaft, and a member for fixedly securing the movable jaw at any point on the elongate shaft. Thus, the workpiece can be held and clamped firmly, if desired, with only one hand.
The tool has a slotted tab for holding the movable jaw on one side of the elongate bar and a spacer (preferably circular) on the other side of the elongate bar. The included angle between the long rod and the fixed handle is preferably about 90 degrees.
The bottom end of the movable jaw has an arcuate convex edge with a radius of curvature of about 1/16 inches (1.5 mm) to 7/16 inches (12 mm). Thus, the movable jaw may be clamped and released at any point on the fixed elongate member, and during the transition from clamping to releasing, the angle may vary from about 2 to 8 degrees, preferably about 5 degrees, and the connecting piece holding the movable jaw may be urged by external force or may be automatically moved by gravity.
An adjusting screw is arranged in the cavity of the fixed handle and is matched with the clamping rod to control the position of the adjustable clamp claw.
The adjustable claw and the movable claw are provided with rotary convex discs at the terminals to jointly form a C-shaped structure, and the two claws can be in a linear shape, an arc shape, a thin tooth shape, a spiral wrapping type, a punching type, a long-mouth type line shearing type or any other combination form.
In this new hand tool there is also a release lever which is rotatably connected to the movable handle, a stop member at the free end of the long rod, and fastening elements for attaching the long rod to the fixed handle or for replacing the long rod. The fastening elements are preferably bolts and wing nuts. The tool is marked to indicate the manufacturer of the new tool.
FIG. 1 is a plan view of a mechanism of an embodiment of the present invention.
Figure 2 is a partial view of the fixed elongate bar with the coupling tabs for holding the movable jaws not shown.
The illustration in the drawings represents only one of the various embodiments of the invention. Other embodiments can be made in accordance with the foregoing description. Throughout the drawings, identical or similar elements are denoted by the same reference numerals.
One embodiment of the present invention is shown in FIG. 1 and is generally designated by the numeral 10. The fixed handle 11 is provided with adjustable jaws 12 which are pivotally connected by rivets at pivot points 13. It is also possible to attach the support point or other support points by means of bolts and nuts or by any other suitable means. A movable handle 14 is mounted on the adjustable jaw 12 and is connected thereto by a rivet at a pivot point 15. The catch lever 16 is mounted on the movable handle 14 and is pivotally connected (or connected in some other manner) by a rivet at pivot 17. The catch lever 16 extends into the cavity of the fixed handle 11 and is pressed by an adjusting screw 33, the screw 33 being adjusted by a knurled knob 32. Of course, other forms of adjustment elements and adjustment knobs are possible, such as slotted screws. An extension spring 18 connects the adjustable jaw 12 from tab or aperture 19 to a tab or aperture not visible in the fixed handle 11 (indicated by arrow 20). The release lever 21 is pivotally connected to the free end of the movable handle 14 in a riveted fashion at a pivot point 22.
The fixed elongate rod 23 may take any suitable length, such as 10 inches (25 Cm) or 18 inches (46 Cm). The long rod 23 is fixed to the fixing handle 11 by a nut 24. It should be noted that the fixing by rivets, glue or any other means, the connection by bolts and nuts, easy to detach, is possible, the gluing by cyanoacrylate, difficult to detach, is also possible. Of course, easy disassembly is preferred because it is convenient to change stock of different lengths or to change stock to a new one.
The movable jaw 25 is mounted on a connecting piece 27 and is carried by this piece 27, the two being connected by three rivets 29. Of course, screws, nuts or glue may be used. As can be seen, the rod 23 is slidably received in a slot in the attachment tab 27 and a spacer 28 is mounted on the opposite side of the rod 23 from the attachment tab 27 but opposite the movable jaw. This sheet 28 is shown as being circular. In practice, curved flat shapes are also possible. This tab 28 serves some function, one of which is to maintain the two parallel faces of the slot of the connecting tab 27 in the correct alignment. One of the rivets 29 is preferably located at the geometric center of the spacer 28 near that center.
As shown in FIG. 1, adjustable clamp 12 and moveable jaw 25 form a C-clamp. It is contemplated that other shapes may be used for other purposes, such as straight, curved, long-mouthed, for perforating, for cutting, etc. The terminal ends of the two jaws 25 and 12 cooperate with each other as a pair of rotating flanges 26a and 26 b. It is also contemplated that other types of slotted, serrated, curved, textured, flat, or combinations of types of jaw terminations may be used, as long as the workpiece is clamped. Two studs 30a and 30b are used to limit the length of movement. It should be noted, however, that if several cuts are made, several collars are added, or a weld is added, or other methods are used, the movement of the free end of the long fixing rod 23 can be limited.
The five flat areas marked with the number 31 in the drawing and the screw head or rivet head can be pressed with specific marks, letters, numbers or characters to indicate the manufacturer of the tool of the invention, so as to prevent the manufacturer at home and abroad from counterfeiting.
Designated 40 in figure 2 is a sectional plan view of the elongate bar 23, together with the integral spacer 28 and the terminal end of the movable jaw 25 which is remote from the rotatable lug 26 b. The outer edge of the sliding end of the moveable jaw has an arcuate lip 42 with a radius of curvature of about 1/16 inches (1.5 mm) to 7/16 inches (12 mm), although 3/16 inches (5 mm) is preferred. When the movable jaw 25 is free to slide along the long rod 23 by gravity or pushed to any position by the user, the jaw sliding end can be shifted from the clamping position 25a to the release position 25b by the flange 42. The clearance angle 41 resulting from this change in position is from about 2 to about 8 degrees, but is preferably about 5 degrees.
Although fig. 1 and 2 have been described in detail with respect to the invention, various changes in the form, size, arrangement of parts and combination of parts may be made which are also within the scope of the invention as described in the appended claims.
