Abstract

Background technique

Application FR 2961384 discloses an applicator comprising teeth extending on less than half a path around the longitudinal axis of the core. Such an applicator is especially suitable for relatively short eyelashes or eyebrows, the shape of the applicator member enabling it to be brought closer to the eyelid.

The applicator known from application EP 1070466 comprises an applicator element on one side of the core only.

Application US 2012/0167910 describes an applicator comprising a fixed bristle field and a movable bristle field, the base of which is movable relative to the base of said fixed bristle field.

There is a need to further improve applicators for applying product, especially mascara, to the eyelashes and/or eyelids, thereby improving their performance, and more particularly facilitating the formation of a large product-laden area on the applicator member, which Allows makeup to be applied easily and coats lashes with makeup quickly and generously while retaining high performance to separate lashes. There is also a need to benefit from an applicator capable of producing entirely new cosmetic effects on the eyes.

Contents of the invention

According to one of its aspects, the subject of the invention is an applicator for applying cosmetic, cosmetic or skin care products to the eyelashes, eyebrows and/or eyelids, said applicator comprising a molded applicator device member, the applicator member includes:

- a core extending along a longitudinal axis,

- a spike carried by and extending from said core, and

- an applicator element, said applicator element being elongate along the longitudinal axis of said core and extending along a length which is less than the length of said core,

wherein said applicator member does not comprise a spike projected orthogonally on said elongated applicator element,

The invention makes it possible to obtain at least one region on the applicator member, in particular along the elongated applicator element, which forms a reservoir and captures the remaining product after wiping. In particular, product remains on the elongate applicator element because the elongate applicator element does not substantially deform as it passes over the wiping member of the receptacle into which the applicator is immersed. A user's row of eyelashes can be placed on the elongated application element and the user can use the elongated application element to pat the inner base of the upper eyelashes from below. The spikes can then be used to spread the product and detangle the lashes.

Furthermore, the user can create an eyeliner directly on the eyelid by using the elongated applicator element.

The expression "longitudinal axis of the core" denotes the line connecting the centroids of all cross-sections of the core. The longitudinal axis may be the central axis, or even the axis of symmetry of the core, especially when the core has a circular cross-section or a cross-section whose overall shape is a regular polygon. The longitudinal axis of the core may be rectilinear or curvilinear and contained in a plane which is symmetrical to some cross-sections of the core or even to all cross-sections of the core. Preferably, the longitudinal axis of the core is rectilinear.

The term "spike" means a separable protruding element for engaging the eyelashes.

The expression "top of the elongate applicator element" means the point on the free edge of the elongate applicator element which is at the furthest distance from the base of the elongate applicator element by which the elongate applicator elements are connected At the core, the distance is measured perpendicular to the core.

The maximum height of the elongate applicator elements may be greater than the average height of the spikes along the portion of the core carrying the elongate applicator elements.

The average height of the spikes is calculated from the arithmetic mean of all the heights of the spikes. The expression "maximum height of the elongated applicator element" means measured perpendicular to said core between the top of the free edge of the elongated applicator element and its base by which the elongated applicator element is attached to the core out distance. This allows a greater reserve of product to be applied to the base of the eyelashes, with the elongated application element clearly protruding from the spike and thus easily accessible to the eyelashes during application.

The ratio between the maximum height of the elongated applicator elements and the maximum height of the spikes may be between 0.5 and 1.5, better still between 0.8 and 1.2.

The height of the elongated applicator element may be constant along its entire length. Preferably, said elongate application element is variable in height. The height of the elongate application element may increase from the distal end of the elongate application element to the top of its free edge and then decrease from the top of the free edge to the proximal end of the elongate application element.

The height of the elongated applicator element may be non-zero at its distal end.

Said elongated applicator element may have a maximum height of between 2mm and 5mm, better still between 3mm and 4mm.

The point of the elongated applicator element furthest from the longitudinal axis of the core may be a single point. In a variant, the free edge of the elongated applicator element extends over a segment that does not decrease to a single maximum distance from the longitudinal axis of the core.

The elongated applicator element may have a maximum thickness of between 0.2mm and 1.5mm, better still between 0.4mm and 1mm.

Preferably, the height of the elongated applicator element is significantly greater than its thickness, in particular 4 to 7 times greater than its thickness. Said elongated applicator element advantageously also has a tapering profile towards its free edge, when viewed along the longitudinal axis of the core. Thus for a given axial position on the longitudinal axis of the applicator member, the thickness of the elongated applicator element may decrease in the direction of its free edge.

The length of the elongated applicator element may be between 10mm and 14mm.

The top of the elongate applicator element may be located at a distance from the distal end of the core of between one quarter and one half of the total length of the core measured along the longitudinal axis of the core between, in particular equal to one third of the length of the core.

The elongated applicator element is preferably closer to the distal end of the core than to the proximal end of the core.

Along the longitudinal axis of the core, the distal end of the elongated applicator element may be at a distance from the distal end of the core, in particular with a distance comprised between 0.2 mm and 0.7 mm.

In one variant, said elongate applicator element extends around the nose of the core in the plane along which the elongate applicator element extends. The elongated applicator element may thus have a rounded portion at its distal end, preferably having the same thickness as the rest of the elongate applicator element in the direction along which the elongate applicator element extends. Along the longitudinal axis of the core, the top of the elongated applicator element may be closer to the proximal end of the elongated applicator element than to the distal end of the elongated applicator element.

The elongated applicator element may also be arched in shape, in which case the elongated applicator element may consist of arched elements connected at its two ends to the core. The elongate applicator element is preferably molded with and from the same material as the core.

The core, the spike and the elongated applicator element may be molded from the same material, or in a variant they may be made from at least two different materials. The applicator member may have a plurality of longitudinal spikes extending along the longitudinal axis of the core. The applicator member may have 3 to 10 tandem spikes, better 4 to 7 tandem spikes.

Each row of tandem rows of spikes may include the same number of spikes. In one variant, the tandem rows of spikes comprise different numbers of spikes from one row to another.

Each tandem of spikes may comprise 10 to 20 spikes, better 14 to 20 spikes.

The offset between one spike in one longitudinal row and the adjacent spike in the next longitudinal row may be between 0.5 mm and 1.1 mm, for example equal to 0.8 mm.

The height of the at least one spike measured from the core may be between 0.2mm and 5mm.

The height of the spikes in one longitudinal row and/or the height of the spikes from one row to another may vary along the longitudinal axis of the core, for example in a monotonous manner. The applicator may comprise a stem carrying the applicator member at a first end and secured to the grip member at a second end.

The core may be solid, eg molded with an end piece for securing to the applicator stem. The spike and/or elongated applicator element may be made of a more or less rigid material than the material used to make the stem of the applicator to which the core is attached.

The applicator member may comprise a mounting end piece which is integrally molded with the core and where appropriate may comprise one or more narrowings which improve the flexibility and smoothness of application of the applicator.

The core may extend along a longitudinal axis which at at least one point along its length forms an angle with the longitudinal axis of the rod to which the core is secured. The applicator member may be angled at its attachment to the stem.

The stem may comprise a rigid first part which is extended distally by a more flexible second part carrying the applicator member, for example made of elastomer.

The maximum transverse dimension of the core may be less than, greater than or equal to the maximum transverse dimension of the rod. The maximum transverse dimension of the core may be between 1 mm and 5 mm.

The core may have a cross-section, taken perpendicular to its longitudinal axis, having a circular or non-circular shape, such as a hexagon.

The core may include a nose at its distal end. The nose at the distal end of the core may be part of a spherical shape. The nose of the core may include one or more indentations that allow the applicator to pass more easily over the wiping member of the container.

The visible length of the applicator member may be between 15mm and 30mm.

Applicator

Another subject of the invention is a device for packaging and applying a product to the eyelashes, eyebrows and/or eyelids, said device comprising an applicator as defined above and a container containing said product.

The grip member of the applicator may form a cap for closing the container.

The container may comprise a wiping member adapted to wipe said stem and said applicator member.

The product is preferably mascara.

Another subject of the invention is a method for making up the eyes, in which the device according to the invention is used.

The method may include the steps of:

- applying the product to the eyelashes and/or eyebrows and combing the eyelashes and/or eyebrows by using the tip of the applicator member, and

- Use the elongate applicator element of the applicator member to deposit product and line the eyelid.

The features mentioned above for the applicator apply to the device and the method.

Figure 1 shows a packaging and application device 1 manufactured according to the invention, comprising an applicator 2 and an associated container 3 containing a product P to be applied to the eyelashes and/or eyelids, such as mascara or skin care.

In the example in question, the container 3 comprises a threaded neck 4 and the applicator 2 comprises a closure cap 5 designed to be fixed on the neck 4 when the container 3 is not in use, thereby closing the container 3 in airtight form, which The closure cap 5 also forms a gripping member for the applicator 2 .

The applicator 2 comprises a stem 7 having a longitudinal axis Y, which is attached at its upper end to the closure cap 5 and at its lower end to the applicator member 8 . The applicator member 8 comprises a core 10 carrying a spike 18 extending from the core 10 .

The container 3 also comprises a wiping member 6 , for example inserted into the neck 4 .

In the example discussed, the wiping member 6 (which may be any wiping member) comprises a lip designed to wipe the rod 7 and the applicator member 8 when the applicator 2 is removed from the container 3 . The lip defines a wiping opening 6a, the diameter of which is adapted to the diameter of the rod.

In the example shown, the rod 7 has a circular cross-section, but it would not depart from the scope of the invention if the rod 7 had some other cross-section. The lid 5 can then be fixed on the container 3 in some other way than screwing, if necessary. The wiper member 6 is adapted to the shape of the stem 7 and to the shape of the applicator member 8 where appropriate.

Referring to FIG. 2 , it can be seen that the core 10 has an elongated shape along the longitudinal axis X, which is rectilinear in the example described.

As in the example discussed, the core 10 may have a circular cross-section along most of its length. As shown, the longitudinal axis X may be the centerline. However, other cross-sectional shapes are possible. Thus, in the variant of FIG. 10 , the core 10 has a hexagonal cross-section.

As seen particularly in FIGS. 2 , 3 and 5 , the core 10 includes at its distal end 12 a nose 16 which in the example described is part of a sphere, but may have some other shape. In the example discussed, the nose 16 of the core 10 comprises three indentations 16a. The visible length H of the applicator member 8 may be between 22mm and 30mm, and in the example shown is about 26mm.

The applicator member 8 comprises a plurality of longitudinal rows of spikes 18 extending along the longitudinal axis X of the core 10 . In the example described, the applicator member 8 comprises five spikes 18 arranged in tandem.

In the example shown, each spike 18 extends from the core 10 at the point at which the spike 18 is attached to the core 10 along an axis of elongation W perpendicular to the surface of the core. In a variant not shown, the axis of elongation W of the spike 18 forms an angle other than 90° with the surface of the core 10 at the point of attachment of the spike to the core.

As seen in FIG. 2 , the height of the spike 18 may decrease towards the distal end 12 of the core 10 , thereby making insertion into the container 3 easier. The height of the spike 18 may also decrease towards the stem 7, thereby making it easier for the applicator member 8 to pass the wiper member 6 when the applicator 2 is removed from the container 3.

The height of the spikes 18 is for example between 0.2 mm and 5 mm.

The thickness e _p of the spike 18 measured at its base is for example between 0.2 mm and 1.2 mm.

Spike 18 may have various shapes. In the example discussed, the spike 18 has a conical shape. However, the invention is not limited to one particular shape of spike.

In the example described, the spike ends with a rounded free end having a radius of curvature R _p of for example between 0.07 mm and 0.16 mm, for example equal to 0.1 mm.

The offset _Ep (measured between the axes of elongation of the spikes) between one spike 18 in one longitudinal row and the adjacent spike in the next longitudinal row may be between 0.5 mm and 1.1 mm. Between, for example, 0.8mm.

The applicator member 8 may have 30 to 200 spikes, for example about 80 spikes.

The wiping member 6 may be made of elastic body.

The wiping member 6 may include a wiping opening 6a having a circular shape, optionally a slot shape.

The diameter of the wiping opening 6 a of the wiping member 6 is for example between 3 mm and 5.5 mm, for example about 4.5 mm or 5 mm.

The wiper member 6 may optionally have a corrugation allowing the wiper opening to widen more easily as the applicator member 8 passes by.

The wiping opening may thus be delimited by a corrugated wiping lip having a radial inner free edge delimiting the wiping opening 6a. For example, the wiping member 6 may have 3 to 12 undulations. The wiping lip may extend in the form of a cone converging substantially in the direction of the bottom of the container 3 , the generatrix of the cone forming an angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of the container 3 . When the applicator member 8 passes by, the diameter of the wiper opening 6a is increased, for example, from 4mm to 5.5mm by the arrangement of the undulations, without the wiper member 6 being excessively deformed.

Where appropriate, the wiping member may also be adjustable.

The wiping member may for example be a wiping member as described in patent applications US 2005/0028834, US 2005/0175394, US 2004/0258453 or patents US 6375374, US 6328495, US 7455468.

The applicator member 8 is fixed to the stem 7, which may be at least partially, especially completely flexible, especially in the vicinity of the applicator member.

As shown in FIG. 2 , the applicator member 8 comprises along the longitudinal axis X of the core 10 an elongated applicator element 13 in the form of a fin and along a length which is less than half the length of the core 10 extend. The applicator element 13 is flat along a median plane P containing the longitudinal axis X of the core 10 or parallel to a plane containing the longitudinal axis of the core.

In the example of FIGS. 2 and 3 , the applicator member 8 does not comprise a spike 18 projected orthogonally on the elongated applicator element 13 . In other words, in the front part of the applicator member, the spike 18 is positioned on one side and the elongated element 13 on the other side.

In the example in question, as seen in FIG. 3 , the elongated applicator element 13 is offset relative to the longitudinal axis X of the core 10 by a distance d between the median plane P and a parallel plane containing the longitudinal axis X of the core 10 is not zero.

In a variant embodiment shown in FIG. 4 , a spike 18 is projected orthogonally onto the elongated application element 13 such that the top S of the elongated application element 13 forms a larger portion than the free end 18 a of said spike 18 . The ratio h _n /h _p between the height h _n of the elongated application element 13 and the maximum height h _p of the spike is for example between 0.5 and 1.5.

In the example shown, the elongated applicator element 13 increases in height from its distal end 14 to its top S and then decreases from its top S to its proximal end 15 .

In a variant not shown, the height of the elongated application element 13 is constant along its entire length.

The maximum height h _n of the elongate application element 13 is for example between 2 mm and 5 mm.

In the example of FIGS. 1 to 7 , the height of the elongated applicator element 13 is non-zero at its distal end 14 .

In the variant shown in FIG. 8 , the height of the elongated applicator element 13 is zero at its distal end 14 .

In the variant shown in FIG. 7 , the top S of the elongated applicator element 13 is a single point.

As can be seen especially in FIGS. 3 and 4 , the thickness e _n of the elongated application element 13 can decrease in the direction of its free edge 13 a.

As shown in FIG. 5 , the thickness e _n of the elongated applicator element 13 may increase in the direction of its distal end 14 and decrease in the direction of its proximal end 15 .
