Abstract
Des métaux alcalins (126) et du soufre (128) peuvent être récupérés à partir de monosulfures et de polysulfures alcalins (122) dans un procédé électrolytique qui utilise une cellule électrolytique (120) ayant une membrane conductrice d'ion alcalin. Une solution d'anolyte comprend un monosulfure alcalin, un polysulfure alcalin, ou un mélange de ceux-ci et un solvant qui dissout le soufre élémentaire. Un catholyte comprend un métal alcalin fondu. L'application d'un courant électrique oxyde le sulfure et le polysulfure dans le compartiment d'anolyte, amène les ions de métaux alcalins à passer à travers la membrane conductrice d'ion alcalin dans le compartiment de catholyte, et réduit les ions de métaux alcalins dans le compartiment de catholyte. Le soufre liquide se sépare de la solution d'anolyte et peut être récupéré. On fait fonctionner la cellule électrolytique à une température où le métal alcalin formé et le soufre sont fondus.
