Abstract
The invention allows a smoker to extinguish a cigarette and store it for later use or disposal. It consists of a metallic tubular chamber, closed on one end, with a removable cap on the other end. The chamber is sized to accomodate a cigarette that has been partially smoked. The chamber may or may not be encased in a separate covering for appearance. The invention can be manufactured to accommodate cigarettes of different sizes, but will generally be about 2.5 inches in length and about 0.75 inches in diameter.
The invention rapidly extinguishes the cigarette through a two-stage process:
First, the act of dropping your cigarette into the chamber causes a displacement of air from the bottom of the chamber to the top. This displacement means the air at the top of the chamber is traveling upward and away from the burning ember of the cigarette, thus starving it of air.
Secondly, the heat of the dying ember forces the remaining air in the top of the chamber to rise up and out of the chamber, thus further reducing the amount of air available in the chamber.
