Description
METHOD OF FORMING
CONCRETE COLUMNS
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to construction and more particularly, relates to a method and a device for pouring concrete columns.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
In the construction of buildings utilizing concrete as the main structural component, the building is supported by a series of concrete columns. These columns are typically formed floor by floor. Typically, the concrete is poured into the forms defining the columns in conjunction with the pouring of a concrete floor. Where the top of the column meets the floor, the various metallic members (rebar) on the floor and within the form defining the column are connected. Subsequently, wood is utilized to seal the gap between the top of the column and the floor.
The above method for the pouring of the concrete columns becomes more expensive in that carpenters must be utilized for the wood portion. Afterwards, the wood must be removed. This can lead to an increase in the cost of construction.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
It is an object of the present invention to provide a method and device to overcome the disadvantages set forth above.
According to one aspect of the present invention, there is provided a mold and a method which is suitable for use in the pouring of concrete columns.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Having thus generally described the invention, reference will be made to the accompanying drawings illustrating an embodiment thereof, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a mold suitable for use in the pouring of concrete columns;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of a strap securement which may be utilized in conjunction with the mold of Figure 1; and Figure 3 is a bottom plan view of the form and securement strap.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Referring to the drawings in greater detail and by reference characters thereto, there is illustrated a form and securement member according to an embodiment of the present invention.
The form is generally designated by reference numeral 10 and includes a top rim 12 which is of a generally rectangular form. Four walls 14 are interconnected by rounded portions and extend from top rim 12 to a circular lower rim 16. A plurality of vertical slits 18 (preferably four) are formed in circular lower rim 16 to permit tightening thereof as will be discussed hereinbelow.
A securement strap generally designated by reference numeral 20 is designed to extend around circular lower rim 16 as shown in Figure 3. Securement strap 20 comprises a metal band 22 which is jointed at a plurality of locations 24 for reasons which will become apparent hereinbelow. On metal band 22, there are provided a plurality of projections 26. A
chain 28 has one end thereof welded to metal band 22. A plurality of J-hook anchor bolts 30 each extend through a respective projection 26 and are screwthreadedly engaged with nuts 32. Thus, the metal band 22 may be tightened about circular lower rim 16.
There are also provided a plurality (four) of brackets 33. Each bracket 33 is designed to receive a brace 34 which is pivotably moveable therein. Braces 34 may be extended

There are also provided a plurality (four) of brackets 33. Each bracket 33 is designed to receive a brace 34 which is pivotably moveable therein. Braces 34 may be extended
-2-upwardly to the surrounding structure.
Following a use wherein circular lower rim 16 extends about the form for a concrete column, and after the concrete has sufficiently hardened, securement strap 20 may be removed. Form 10 may then be cut into pieces for removal and used for recycling.
Conveniently, the used form 10 may be returned to the manufacturer where it can be ground up and used for a new form. The forms may be made of a suitable material such as a medium density polyethylene.
It will be understood that the above described embodiments are for purposes of illustration only and that changes and modifications may be made thereto without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
