Abstract
A comb for removing braids and cornrow hairstyles from an individuals' hair.
The comb is comprised of:
1. Three large tines, slightly bent at the tips, with spacing of approximately 3/4" between each tine.
2. Fourteen small tines, and a tail or handle, approximately 3 inches in length The portion of the comb with the three large tines is spaced in such a manner that the individual removing the braids can place their first and second finger comfortably in between each tooth which provides more control and speed to the individual.
The large tines of the comb can be used to grasp the hair easily and quickly, thus loosening the braids more readily. Once the braids have been loosened, the other end of the invention, comprised of fourteen small times, can be used to comb the hair out.

The Background of the Invention The Braid Removal comb's main purpose is to aid in the process of loosening and removing braids and cornrows from individual's hair. Many people of African descent fashion their hair in various braided hairstyles.
These styles can be created using an individual's natural hair, or extensions such as synthetic kenakalen or human hair can be "weaved" into the individuals' own hair to create and maintain a braided styles. Braided designs can range anywhere in length from 1 to 40 inches and from 5/16`'' to 2 inches wide.
Depending on the complexity, length and width of the braids, it can take anywhere from one to twenty-four hours to create a braided hairstyle. The process of removing braids can take equally as long. The Braid Removal Comb has been designed to reduce the amount of time required to loosen and remove braids. By using this specially designed comb, braids can be removed quickly and efficiently in half the amount of time it would normally take to remove braids with a regular tail comb With a regular small-toothed comb (tail comb), there is often difficulty in grasping and loosening the hair, which often results in breakage of the combs tines. The large, slightly bent tines in the Braid removal comb expedites the removal of braids quickly and efficiently without breakage to the comb or the individual's hair. This reduces the amount of time it takes to unravel the braided hairstyle which normally can take anywhere from one to five hours, sometimes longer depending on the thickness or thinness of each individual braid. The width and slightly angled positioning of the large tines enable the braid to be unrevealed with ease and simplicity, while the small tines of the invention can be used to comb out the unraveled braid and to also loosen very fine, tiny braids.
The Braid Removal Comb is 6 inches in length from top to bottom, and 1 inch wide from the tip of the tines to the base (or back) of the comb. The front end of the comb, which is comprised of large and small tines, is 3 inches in length, while the tail or handle makes up the remaining 3 inches of length. Each of the three large tines measures approximately 11 / 16th of an inch in length and goes from 3/16 of an inch (in thickness at the bass) to 1/16 of an inch (in thickness at the tip). Each tine, which is rounded and smooth at the point, is bent outward towards the tip at a 45(degree) angle. There is a spacing of 3/4 of and inch between the first and second large tooth and the second and third large tooth. There are fourteen smaller sized tines also measuring 1 1/16t" of an inch in length. The base of the comb (from which all the tines extend) is 5/16th of an inch in length, while the width (or thickness) is 2/1 6th of an inch.
This demonstrates the removal of the braids. Thick and thin braids are removed the same way. Hold the comb as a pencil in the right hand and hold the hair in the left hand.
Holding the comb as a pencil gives you control and speed. The thine is especially made fine at tip to insert into each section of the braid continuing to the end. Insert comb into braid and loosen until completed. Comb out hair with the clustered thine on the comb.
