Abstract
L'invention concerne un moteur à combustion interne qui peut être alimenté en un premier carburant uniquement, en une combinaison du premier carburant et d'un deuxième carburant ou en un deuxième carburant uniquement. Le moteur comprend deux soupapes séparées d'injection de carburant disposées toutes les deux dans la tête de cylindre et qui injectent respectivement le premier et le deuxième carburants directement dans la chambre de combustion. Le moteur de l'invention permet d'utiliser des têtes de cylindre classiques en utilisant l'emplacement normalement occupé par une bougie pour monter la deuxième soupape d'injection de carburant. Pour fournir une assistance à l'allumage en remplacement de la bougie, le moteur de l'invention utilise un appareil d'assistance à l'allumage qui fonctionne en préconditionnant l'air dans le collecteur d'air d'admission. Un dispositif électronique de commande peut être programmé pour commander le fonctionnement de la première soupape d'injection de carburant, de la deuxième soupape d'injection de carburant et de l'appareil d'assistance à l'allumage en réponse à des conditions mesurées de fonctionnement du moteur. Le procédé d'utilisation du moteur de l'invention comprend les étapes consistant à préconditionner de l'air présent dans le collecteur d'air d'admission avant de l'introduire dans la chambre de combustion par recours à un appareil d'assistance à l'allumage, introduire le premier carburant directement dans la chambre de combustion par une première soupape d'injection de carburant, introduire le deuxième carburant directement dans la chambre de combustion par une deuxième soupape d'injection de carburant et sélectionner un parmi plusieurs modes de fonctionnement prédéterminés pour déterminer quand l'air doit être préconditionné, quand le premier carburant doit être introduit et quand le deuxième carburant doit être introduit, ces déterminations étant réalisées en réponse aux conditions mesurées de fonctionnement du moteur et à des entrées effectuées par l'opérateur.
