Abstract

The invention provides a safe and easy way for dogs or other animals to exit swimming areas whereby exiting requires climbing a upright ladder as the only exit option available such as used for pools, cottage dock ladders, boat dock ladders and boat ladders. The device attaches to any step of the ladder and extends outward and sits below water level allowing an easy exit from the water for the animal by swimming directly onto the device and stepping up onto solid ground. The device also allows the animal easy access to the water by stepping down onto the device and swimming off the device into the water. The device is attached by two brackets that are secured onto any step of the ladder. These brackets allow an adjustable positioning of the device to allow animals of different heights an easy access to or exit from the water.

Description

This invention relates to animal access or exit from swimming pools, boats, boat and cottage docks.
It is common for swimming pools to have ladders for access and exit purposes which are in an upright position. Ladders of this kind are ineffective to allow pets and other animals to access and exit the pool because of the awkward angle of the ladder and the anatomy of the animal being different than that of the design of a ladder for humans.
This problem may be overcome by placing a device designed for dogs and other animals and attached to an existing pool, dock or boat ladder below the water level so that the animals can access or exit the water without effort.
The drawings which illustrate the invention, Figure 1 is the assembly drawing of the device showing its function and manner of assembly when attached to the ladder. Figure 2 shows a top view of the device displaying the ribbing used to enable the animal to have a more effective grip as well as to make the device stronger. Figure 3 shows the top view of the "skirt" which creates a small step as leverage for the animal's rear legs. Figure 4 is the top view of the step that is attached to the bottom of the "skirt". Figure 5 is the side view of the reversible brackets used to attach the assembly to the ladder.
The device illustrated comprises a platform 2 which is adapted to be attached to a ladder. It may be of any suitable size, but, in the form shown, is a platform 2 with rugged web-shaped elevations for better grip and a step 4 attached to a skirt 3 for easier access to the platform 2 which is attached to the existing ladder by brackets 5 which cradle the back of the platform 2, this makes the platform 2 easier to remove by sliding into the brackets 5 without the use of tools.
This device with a small modification can be used as a seat for people or a small access board for people under 180 lbs or 90 kilograms.
