Description

STRUCTURAL LIGHT WOOD PANEL
Introduction The present invention relates to a multi-layered wood panel at the both light and strong, which comes in the form of a perforated plywood.
Technical background In the field of construction, the manufacture of furniture or all other applications for which it is appropriate to have a material of a certain thickness, some resistance to the load and some appearance, it is customary practice to use wood panels or by-products or wood by-products.

The panels that are so used, are currently made of solid wood, wood veneer assembled flat (plywood), by-products of sawnwood (particle board and MDF) or wafers (panels embossed).

The problem with existing panels is that they are relatively heavy, especially when they have to have good resistance.

Summary of the invention The present invention aims to meet an existing need, namely provide a panel that is light, strong and beautiful in appearance, and who is therefore adapted to the various uses mentioned above.

The light and solid multilayer wood panel according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises:

- a central layer hereinafter called soul, which is made at least one flexible wood veneer corrugated into flutes; and I 1 p

La Figure 1 est un vue en perspective d'un panneau de bois multi-couches selon un premier mode de réalisation de l'invention ;

La Figure 2 est une vue en perspective éclatée d'un placage de bois flexible utilisable pour former la couche centrale du panneau illustré sur la Figure 1;

2 - two outer layers made of wood, which are glued together said central layer.

The central layer or soul can be composed of one or more flexible wood veneers glued to a sheet of paper or other flexible support material. The outer layers are advantageously made of ordinary thin wood veneers placed alternately grain structure. Alternatively, we can use wood veneers flexible or thin timber lumber.

The core of the panel can consist of a single flexible wood veneer corrugated in flutes or multiple veneers that are linked together by one or several flat thin wood veneers on which they are glued. In this In the last case, corrugated flexible wood veneers have their advantage flutes oriented 900 to each other.

Brief description of the drawings The invention will be better understood on reading the non-limiting description which follows thereof, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:

3 La Figure 4 est une vue en perspective similaire à celle illustrée sur la Figure 1, montrant en outre une tige constituée d'une pièce de bois solide qui a pour but de donner une finition au bord du panneau ;

La Figure 5 est une vue de côté de l'extrémité d'un panneau, dans lequel l'extrémité de la couche externe est repliée pour donner un fini à celui-ci ;

3 Figure 4 is a perspective view similar to that illustrated on the figure 1, further showing a rod made of a piece of solid wood which has for purpose of giving a finish to the edge of the panel;

Figure 5 is a side view of the end of a panel, in which the end of the outer layer is folded to give a finish to it;
and Figure 6, which is on the same sheet as Figures 1 and 2, is a perspective view similar to Figure 1 but showing a variant of embodiment in which the panel comprises a central layer constituted of several flexible wood veneers whose flutes are oriented at 90 °
the one against the other.

Detailed description of the invention As previously mentioned, the subject of the present invention is a panel that is both lightweight, strong and beautiful looking, and is intended at satisfy the above mentioned uses.

This panel is similar to plywood panels, except that or the inner layers thereof, hereinafter referred to as core layers or souls, are in fact replaced by one or more wood veneers Flexible organized in flutes, simple or superimposed. This panel is therefore in made a perforated plywood.

The manufacture of thin veneers of flexible wood has been known for 1970s. However, these veneers have so far been used only for decorative applications. In the context of the present invention, this same thin veneer of flexible wood arranged in flutes is intended for give a solid structure to multi-layer wood panels according to the invention, while substantially reducing its weight.

4 Figure 1 is a perspective view of a panel (1) of multi-plywood layers according to the invention. This panel comprises two outer layers (3, 3 ') made of wood, preferably ordinary thin wood veneer placed alternating grain structure, or flexible wood veneers or thin sawn timber. The panel (1) also includes a layer core or core (2) which consists of a flexible wood veneer organized in flutes. The structure of this flexible wood is illustrated more detail in Figure 2. It consists preferably of an assembly of three folds, including two outer plies (4, 5) which are preferably made of a plating of thin wood whose thickness can vary between 1/36 inches to 1/125 inches.
This assembly also comprises an internal fold (6) which is made of a flexible support material, such as 1/200 inch Kraft paper. These three folds are assembled in a press by gluing. Of course, the pressure and press temperature depend on the glue used.

The assembly is then processed in a device called flexor which makes flexible assembly in a direction parallel to the grain of the wood. This device has the property of re-opening the checks produced during the manufacturing thin veneer without breaking the fiber structure of this veneer slim.

Figure 3 shows a variant of the central layer (2) of the panel according to the invention. This variant includes a thin wood veneer (7) applied on a sheet (8) of kraft paper or the like, the veneer and the sheet being assembled together in press and flexed as before.

The two outer layers (3, 3 ') of the panel as shown in Figure 1 may also consist of flat flexible veneers laid in a direction contrary to the wood grain of the inner fold. The whole of panel is assembled by gluing in a press.

As previously mentioned, the two outer layers can be made of other materials such as thin wood veneers, thin sawn timber boards or any other rigid materials.

The species of wood used for the manufacture of veneers, as well as the

5 type of glue and the type of sheet of paper, can of course vary according to the characteristics required for the intended uses.

The flute structure of the middle layer considerably increases the resistance to effort in a direction parallel to the flutes. The juxtaposition crossed two or more flute structures linked together by one or more thin wood veneers (12), increases the resistance to effort in two directions when required. An example of such an arrangement with two flute structures is illustrated in Figure 6 of the drawings.

As shown in Figure 4, for example, a finishing rod a piece of solid wood (11) can be arranged between the layers external (3, 3 ') of the panel in the direction of the flutes of the central layer to give the panel an adequate finish in that direction.

Although this same finishing method is usable in the sense opposite, a twisting of one of the ends of one of the outer layers into semicircle can also give a good finish to the panel.
This is illustrated in Figure 5 which shows the end (14) of the layer external (3 ') folded in a semicircle 180 degrees. In such a case, the layer upper layer joins the lower layer and the resulting seal is practically invisible after finishing.

It goes without saying that various modifications could be made to the lightweight structural wood panel previously described without departing from the frame of the present invention.
