Abstract

The riding spur (16) has a U-shaped band member (22), a spur (24) and a protective layer (26). Said band member (22) comprises two side parts, each comprising a side leg (30) and an eye region (32). Said side legs (30) comprise one outer surface (34) and one inner surface (36) and are connected to said protective layer (26), said inner surface (36) being lined with said protective layer (26). Said protective layer (26) does not cover the outer surface (34) of the side legs (30) completely but leaves it at least partially exposed so that the outer surface (34) of the side legs (30) forms at least partially the visible outer surface (34) of the band member (22).

Claims (9)

1. A riding spur (16) comprising a U-shaped band member (22), a spur (24) and a protective layer (26), said band member (22) comprising two side parts (28), each comprising a side leg (30) and an eye region (32) and said side legs (30) comprising one outer surface (34) and one inner surface (36) each and being connected to said protective layer (26), said inner surface (36) being lined with said protective layer (26), characterized in that said protective layer (26) does not cover said outer surface (34) of said side legs (30) completely but leaves it at least partially exposed so that said outer surface (34) of said side legs (30) forms at least partially the visible outer surface (34) of said band member (22).
2. The riding spur (16) as set forth in claim 1, characterized in that less than 50 % of the outer surface (34) of the side legs (30) is provided with a protective layer (26), more specifically that it is not provided with a protective layer (26) at all.
3. The riding spur (16) as set forth in claim 1, characterized in that more than 50 %, preferably about 80 %, of the entire surface area of the inner surface (36) of the side legs (30) is provided with a protective layer (26).
4. The riding spur (16) as set forth in claim 1, characterized in that the side legs (30) comprise at least one hole (50) that commences at the inner surface (36) and extends as far as the outer surface (34) or not as far as the outer surface (34) and that the protective layer (26) engages this hole (50).
5. The riding spur (16) as set forth in claim 1, characterized in that the side legs (30) comprise a recess, more specifically a crimp (49) that is formed on the inner surface (36) and that the protective layer (26) engages with this crimp (49).
6. The riding spur (16) as set forth in claim 1, characterized in that the side legs (30) comprise at least one roughened region that is located inside the inner surface (36) and that is preferably obtained through sandblasting.
7. The riding spur (16) as set forth in claim 1, characterized in that a protective layer (26) is fastened on the inner surface (36) only, more specifically by gluing, spraying and/or vulcanizing.
8. The riding spur (16) as set forth in claim 1, characterized in that a carrier means (54), more specifically a metallic mesh that is solidly connected to the inner surface (36), is applied to said inner surface (36) and that said carrier means (54) is intimately connected to the protective layer (26) and does not protrude beyond the surface of said protective layer (26).
9. The riding spur (16) as set forth in claim 1, characterized in that the protective layer (26) ensheathes the side legs (30) in a hose-like fashion, leaving windows (38).
