Abstract

( ) Abstract An invention relates to a timber crane (1) which consist of a pillar (2) in the upper end of said pillar is connected with a joint (12) a lift boom (11) lifted by a pressure cylinder (13) and in the end of said lift boom is further fastened with joint (7) a boom (3) consist-ing of telescopical extension parts (3a,3b). A pressure cylinder (14) turns said boom around the joint (7). In the outer one (3b) of said extension parts is fastened a device for lifting or loading timber and with pressure medium driven motor (6) for reeling a pull member (4) on a reel (5) said pull member fastened at least to one of the extension parts (3a,3b). The pull member (4) is adapted only to pull inside the extension parts (3a,3b) and the pulling out of said parts are carried out by gravity when tilting at least the telescopical boom downwards.

~IHBER CRANE
The pr~sent inventi~n relates to a timber crane, which con- -sist~ o around its vertlcal axis turning plllar, ln the upper end of which ls jointed a lift boom ~ith a ~oint con-nection and said boom is llfted up and down by a hydraulic cyllndar. ~he l~t boom consist of two parts an~ the outest part has a te1escopical form. In the end of the outest tele-~copical boom extension ls hinged a grap or other kind of tlmber treatlng devlce. According to the inventlon the tele-~coplcal boom extensions are pulled another ln~ide another with reellng a pulling member especially a cable on a reel.

Generally in pil1ar cr~nes and 1Oaders fixed on a vehicle are used hydraullc cyllnders and chains to pu~h out and pu11 ln th~ te1~scopica1 boom exten~ions. In the~e cases the 1ift cylinder ha~ to hold up the welght of load and extra load caused by the cyllnder and the chain equip~ents. Moreover for chain~ have to give up a ~pace between t~e boom extensions.
Thu~ the ability to lift 1Oads i8 not the best one becau3~ of the lncrea~e of total boo~ weight and the decrease of the area of the boom cross-section.

FI-Patent applicatlon nr. 853357 sets forth a telescop~cal ~etch boom a~ an acce~sory fixed on the 11ft boom of the u~ual timber crane. With this fetch boom can ~eparate tlmbers only be pu11ed nearer so that the grab fixed to the u~ual boom can take ~aid tlmber~ and ll~t up. Wlth th~ fetch boom can only timber3 be pul1ed a1Ong the ground any lift i5 not po~lble. The ~etch boom consist of telescopical part~
which c2n be pulled another in31de another with a cable. The fetch boom ls-turned down for ext~nding the u~ual boom. It has a ~oint connection in the end of the usual boom. The fetch boom is cau~ing extra welght, too.

With solution accordl~g to this invention is avolded ~aid de-fect~. Characteristlc ~or this lnvention i5 what is pres~ntedin patent clalm 1. The tele~copical 1ift boom system accord-ing to the inventlon ha~ not hydraullc cylinders to inc~aase welght as well i~ not need~d to give up space for chains between extension boom part The tel~scopical boom crane is lighter and its abillty to li~t loads $s better compared with at present known boom cranes or loaders. Becau~ of th0 invented boom ~y~tem ha~ not any ~eparate cra~t devlce to push out boom exten~lon~ said boom ha~ to be turned ~lrst to downwards slanting positlon while gravlty 1~ pulling the telescopical boom extensions out when the locking apparatus i5 open.

In the following, the invention i~ descrlbed ln detall with reerences to the attached drawlngs.

Piq. 1 rep~esents the timber crane according to the lnvention a~ a side figure.
Fig. 2 represen~s the boom ln the shortest po~itlon.
Fig. 3 represents locking ~y~tem~ o~ the tele~copical part~.
Fig. 4 represent a cross-section of the boom In flg. 1 a crane 1 ha~ a plllar 2 which can be turn~d around lt~ vertical ~xls by hydraulic turnlng devlce 17 whlch ls supported and connected with a vehicle llke tractor or timber truck ~not pre~ented). In the upper end of the plllar is connected with a ~oînt 12 the first boom 11 and with a ~olnt 7 i~ connected tha followlng boom 3 as an extension boom.
The boom 11 ls turned around the ~olnt 12 by a hydraulic cyl~nd~r 13 and tAe boom 3 i~ tu~ned around the ~oint 7 by a hydraulic cyllnder 14. The boom 3 ha~ further two exten~lon part~ 3a and 3b which can be pulled ln~ide the boom 3 by a cable ~. The cable 4 ls reeled on a re~l 5 flxed ln the boom 11. A hyd~aulic motor 6 gives the rotation ~or the reel 5.
The cabl~ has a ~upport wheel 15 by the ~ide o the ~olnt 7 an~ a wheel 16 (a~ a pulley) ln the end o~ the oute~t part 3b. The other ~nd of th~ cable 4 1~ fastened on the boom 3 locating fastening 18. When the cable 4 is reeled on the reel 3S 5 the cable 1~ pulllng the extenslon part~ 3a and 3b ln ide the boom 3. When the said extension parts are inslde the boom 3 the locklng member 19 1~ locklng wlth a wedge 20 all parts inside the boom 3.

. 3 ~ In Fig. 2 1~ presented how bearlng members 9 are located : inside the boom part~. Very u 0ful material for bearings 9 i~
Teflon.

~ig. 3 and g show a locking sy~tem of the boom parts where plece~ 24 o~ high ~riction material are pressed against the inner boom part thus locking the next part with the previous part. The support pieces 23 consi~t o~ pressure cyl$nders for pres~lny the friction piece~ 24 agalnst the boom sides.
lO Pressure is led to sa1d cyllnders through the hoses 21~22,26 and hose branches 25. Locking can be automatically carr1ed out 50 that locking pressure is removed only when the sable 4 is reeled out or on the reel 5. The boom parts have to be locked automatically, too when the boom 3 1~; lited over the horlzontal line tiltinq to the vehicle.

When t1mber 1s loaded by the crane l the boom 3 ha~ irst to be tilted downwards aroun~ the ~oint 7 or 12 causlng that boom axtension~ 3a and 3b come out pulled by gravity lf all locking sy tems are open. Wlth the grab fastened ln the end lO of the boom is tlmber taken up and i~ needed the cable 4 i~ reeled on the reel 5 for pulllng boom parts in~ide and laying timber ln the lntended place.

The inventlon i5 not limited by detall~ pre~ented but for example the cable 4 can be fa~tened in the end of the boom part ~b w~thout turnlng pulley 16. The cable can be placed `~ lnslde the booms ll,3 or under or by the side of them.
